    seattle crash

I was naive when social media cranked up. I'd see someone ranting about something and offer alternative perspective supported by facts. What I found out quickly was people were not interested in facts their opinions did not support. People just love confirmation bias and will seek out echo...

    seattle crash

Pretty disgusted with FUD from Fox... The local news station in Seattle keeps the story to the basic facts, while the national fox website diverges the story into FUD about FSD being on a free trial. I detest this sort of FUD because it's dishonest and misleads the public. It's bad enough...

Tow Hitch - OEM vs Aftermarket pros/cons

I put an after market on my m3, and had to spend time loving on it with a rattle can. I think I got it from e-trailer... it fit well, but it's chinese garbage. Powder coat coming off, I fear looking at it now after 3 years. I'd go with the factory because it'll be MUCH higher quality. Prob...

State of charge maximum auto-set at home

I'd like to add to this.... The chevy bolt had a feature that if the battery was <40%, the car would charge as soon as it was plugged in to get to 40%. Then it would stop and wait for off peak electric rates and start again. Sure would be nice if Tesla did that.

    Idle fees for supercharging

I was at the supercharger in North Charleston SC and we were stacked up 3 deep waiting for an available charger. A guy came out of the Mellow Mushroom, unplugged his car. I ran to get in my car and pulled around to find that he'd run back into the restaurant without moving. I think Tesla...

How much should the HOA charge? (I'm the HOA president)

All very true. I was trying to make it sound more attainable and less expensiveable (lol) to the airport. Columbia is a lot closer to me than Charlotte. I did mention to CAE that CLT had business valet parking that I used all the time and that could be a revenue generator for them if they'd...

How much should the HOA charge? (I'm the HOA president)

You are correct... but ... when I contacted the Columbia Airport in South Carolina, I spoke to the facilities manager about installing 120v outlets in the parking garage. I was trying to explain to him that there was no need for expensive j1772 charge stations. 120v would be great becuas even...

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

FWIW, grid tied inverters have a range from like 59.8hz to 60.5hz. Ouside of that they won't sync with the grid and start a 300 second reconnect timer. But you can reprogram them to have a wider range. My SMA sunnyboys were delivered as grid tied, but I contacted SMA and they gave me a grid...

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

I'm not using Tesla power wall, but rather I have a SMA sunny island off grid system. My system goes to 62hz to stop solar production. I'm baffled why Tesla would choose 65hz? Anyone know? Is there a good reason?

How much should the HOA charge? (I'm the HOA president)

thanks... once again good info.... but alas her apartment has two on one post already. One of the other residents with a Tesla actually runs a 120v cord out of their ground floor apartment. She's considering breaking her lease but has no legal ground because although the charger was listed as...

How much should the HOA charge? (I'm the HOA president)

the issue is they only had two EVSE's. I think Tesla wants 6. but the $0.01/kwh to admin the site is good to know.

How much should the HOA charge? (I'm the HOA president)

Good information! Thanks. Might be interesting for my daughter's apartment complex. They had a blink charger but won't re-up the lease and she specifically rented that apartment due to the on site Evse. Kinda stinks.

Connecting Tesla Charge cable to OpenEVSE box

I made a template of the LCD with it's mounting holes, but can't upload an STL file here..... anyway, here's my conversion. Also you can use the tesla reset button with the opevevse display.

Connecting Tesla Charge cable to OpenEVSE box

This is awesome... I happen to have a HPWC unit with a bad cord... I've ordered a replacement cord from a mobile connector and was going to put open Evse in a fiber glass box... but now I'm going to use the hpwc housing... awesome.

I have shared a profile between my mother's MY and my MY.... every time I get in her car it "syncs" to my settings and moves the seat forward and tilts forward. Tow Hitch - OEM vs Aftermarket pros/cons

I'm a little late to this thread but let me say.... the after market hitches are prone to rust when the powder coat peels off. I got one for my M3 and it was rusting before I even got it on the car. So I painted it before installation. My MY factor hitch is looking great.

battery fuse requires replacement soon? what is this?

Saga continues.... I called the service center in Savannah and that guy said it was lost and reopened the case...

Tesla special Cybertruck aftermarket group to create 48V products

I gotta admin I'm an old fart who started at 300 baud just after acoustic couplers were a thing.... so I recently learned about can bus and it's a really neat protocol running at 250k and 500k baud..... tonight I saw interview with Elon and Sandy Munro where Elon says "can bus is slow" ...

    DIY Home Overhead charger mount

I might add to your suggestion.... camber the swing pivot so that it wants to naturally swing toward the wall when not in use. Kinda like a crooked gate that always wants to swing shut.

Also the range extender likely can’t be removed by me in my garage and requires water cooling. A trailer does make sense.

    Hpwc gen3

Thanks! They have two J1772 stations now, I was going to suggest they swap one of them as a trial ballon. Hmmm..... darn. It would be quite expensive for them to run 4 more stations.

    Hpwc gen3

My daughter’s apartment complex didn’t renew the lease on their blink branded Evse. So I had the bright idea to approach them with they could just install a hpwc and let it bill thru Tesla. I see on the latest firmware to my car 2023.44.1 that there’s a note about paid destination chargers. So...

    DIY Home Overhead charger mount

I would have a sheave directly over the cars charge port and one near the wall. I would hang a small weight on tge part of cord near wall. That would tend to pull the charge cord up to ceiling when you weren’t using it.

battery fuse requires replacement soon? what is this?

So they apparently put the wrong fuse in my car. I punched it hard about 6 miles from the service center and had to pay for a tow to them. $207. I’ve sent them a receipt and the towing was arranged thru Tesla roadside. So far no check in the mail. They closed my original fuse service case and...

    Color change in software

My mother drives a model Y just like I do. Her's is white and mine is red. She drove my car to work today and someone asked her if she got a new car because there was a red Tesla parked in her spot. She said "nope, they just released a feature to change the color in software." and smiled.

    Battery Fuse replacement warning

I took our P100DL to Savannah ga service center to get the fuse replaced. I made it 6 miles from the service center and the new fuse blew. It was on hard acceleration. Had to get towed and my roadside was expired but I think they are going to reimburse me. While I was sitting in the car on...

Supercharger - Columbia, SC - Forest Drive

Supercharger - Columbia, SC - Forest Drive

I'm wondering.. follow me for a minute here... in electric code, certain things are required if the voltage exceeds 150v from ground. But these rules don't apply to 120/240 split phase because 240v is really -120 to +120. It's always less than 150v from ground. So with that out of the way...

    CCS from charging provider perspective

If we look back at the original J1772 spec, it permitted up to 80amps @ 400Vdc or 240Vac at 80amps. My understanding was Musk wanted to swap the pins for 400amps and SAE wouldn't do it. So Tesla modified the J1772 physical layout to allow the combining of DC and AC pins. Meanwhile a committee...

A minor annoyance... The guy on Out of Spec podcast is usually very spot on technically... he made a statement the other day about (paraphrasing) "Tesla is confusing about their charge rates"... and went on to say that if you connect up a CCS adapter via the app there is no way you are going to...

the local electric company in Sumter (Black River) co-opted all the HPWCs at a local hotel.
