[UK Discussion] This is what a self driving car looks like

But there are significantly more cars sold in the USA than Canada, right? A system trained on vast quantities of data, would learn the most from the most amount of data available? More US data than Canadian would mean it learns more about US roads? The weather is also significantly different in...

[UK Discussion] This is what a self driving car looks like

So, the UK doesn't get the latest software, there are legal requirements/restrictions that affect how the car operates, the weather/latitude is different causing lighting and vision issues to act in different ways and the entire road system is different from the types of roads, cars, signs...

    Elon & Twitter

You think that he's suddenly gone insane and children will die and waily waily waily because he bought Twitter and let a few right wing accounts back online (and then banned one recently anyway). Before he was rocket guy or car guy he was internet guy. You think he can't do internet? I saw a...

    Elon & Twitter

Twitter is going to be a western version of Wechat: Even photos of Elon's recent Twitter powerpoint showed payments on the last slide. It has everything to do with x.com and not much to do with the Twitter you see at the moment.

Blog SpaceX Has Shipped 100,000 Starlink Terminals

It gets weirder. I've been waiting ages and was told essentially at the end of the year that it got pushed to 2022 (March-ish).. and yet a friend that I told about Starlink way after I pre-ordered mine has had his already. I'm not sure it's even worth keeping the pre-order as broadband...

Supercharging now costs more than gas (one owner's experience)

They are marketed on cost because most people simply don't care about the environment, their health, or other things that are essentially invisible issues. It's not that cost is the whole cake, it's that it is made to look like the whole cake to conceal all the carrots hidden within.

Supercharging now costs more than gas (one owner's experience)

I presume the environment isn't a factor either? I think a lot of people want an EV to help air pollution issues too. There's a lot of associated health costs (personally and wider) that could be factored in here as well.

    Tesla Tequila.. minus the tequila

Mine came today, and it's a pity the QC pass sticker is on the front of the box and stuck hard enough that it won't come off without damage to the box. but the quality of the glass doesn't look as bad as the Aussie post suggested it might, so perhaps we lucked out. I still think it was...

    Tesla Tequila.. minus the tequila

Yeah I got the delayed email on Friday. I was starting to wonder what had happened to it; so at least they got in touch. The Australia thread (they already got theirs) points out that the quality in the product is severely lacking though which is a real shame as essentially I got it precisely to...

    About that "yoke" steering wheel

Personally I think that in order for the yoke to really work, it would need to have software that adjusts the amount of turning required depending on the speed of the vehicle. At high speeds it can work just fine with the usual amount of 'turnage' but at lower speeds the car is going to have to...

    Stopped by the Cops

Tell me what's great about your car

On Sandy Munro's roadtrip he came across a Model 3 that he said was just perfect; far better than the one they had bought that came off the line in December of last year. Elon confirmed in an interview with Sandy that they had made a lot of adjustments at the start of 2021 to improve quality.

    4WD doesn't mean you're invincible

I recall driving past a BMW x3 sticking out of a hedge, as I slowly rolled past in a 2 wheel drive sports coupé on summer tyres. Steady as she goes is the rule, and very little use of the brakes. I did get myself some winter tyres after that, and those made all the difference. Well worth the...

    Model X -> PHEV : Regrettably after 4 years

My friend swapped their Mitsubishi Outlander for a Model X. They have space for a home charger, but my point is that they decided the two vehicles were pretty much like for like as far as usability, so you could go the opposite way.

Boosting LTE Signal in the UK

After the destruction of our local telephone mast during the winter weather, we had no service at home. Tow Behind a Motorhome

I assume that the electric option going forwards will be to have an electric vehicle towing an 'RV' trailer unit (i.e. caravan) but one that has it's own battery packs in the floors and braked axles. That way it would provide some measure of regen and added power to assist with towing its own...

Why not buy a Mustang Mach-E?

I think it will be the case that the workers will have input. Elon consistently asks his staff for improvements, often direct to his inbox. He's also good at looking at how things are done and then improving on it or taking it back to first principles. I think that the German workers are going...

Why not buy a Mustang Mach-E?

I think one of the issues that I've noticed is down to the fact that Teslas are built in the warm and sunny climate of Fremont. I don't know if any of you have visited our fair isle for the winter period, but the biting cold that soaks through into your bones, with constant drizzle and salty...

Why not buy a Mustang Mach-E?

Tesla isn't perfect, and I agree that they need to up their game for customer service. Likewise they have had some quality issues that are likely coming from being such a new company; however I'm a firm believer that a lot of these issues (such as the Model 3 wheel-well that Sandy Munro...

Why not buy a Mustang Mach-E?

Ben Sullins seems to like it. The main point is that there are actually decent offerings available. I think choice is a good thing, but you're right that they need to do some sort of deal / investment in a larger charging network.

Cooker Black TR93IBL | Smeg.com is what we've got. Had it installed last Christmas time and to be honest it's been great. Unexpected Tesla Fans

I see myself as small 'c' conservative for the most part. I live in a rural part of the UK big on dairy and sheep farming. Coronavirus

COVID19 is particularly virulent compared to other coronaviruses like SARS or MERS, or even compared with the regular flu, and we have no immune response or vaccinated people to slow its spread either. It's not massively deadly in comparison. However that's what makes it a numbers game. Flu...

    Coronavirus

I can't say that I've personally experienced the US healthcare system. I've only used the UK and Australian systems. The UK system works fairly well, but is under a lot of pressure right now. Coronavirus

Regarding reinfection, there has been one person tested in the USA who carried both the S strain and the mutated and far more virulent L strain of the disease. Thus it might well be the case that since there are two strains, reinfection is in fact catching the other strain. If you haven't...

BMW i4 with 435 mile range

Thanks. I went for something more like the long swept sleek look of the Z3 Roadster which has smaller nostrils and a flatter bonnet profile. But I agree they're not needed at all. BMW has doubled down on the 'our grille is our brand' schtick so I figured they'd have to keep it somewhere. There...

    Name change w/ Raven?

I think Raven was an internal name, whereas the changes to the 'Long Range' becoming the 'Long Range +' was due to government requirements. Most other countries just don't seem to have fog lights at all. I remember getting in an Aussie car and trying to find where the fogs were, only to discover that there were none at all. My Model S was destroyed by hail (no kidding), so I need to buy another car

Sono will stay in business after crowdfunding success

I'm glad to see that they're still going. I honestly think that there is a market for these as rechargers, since they can do vehicle to vehicle charging. Since it's a car it carries far more than a simple battery bank on a van could, and you could probably recharge a good quarter of a 'tank' for...
