Will Model 3 be able to tow?

"rulaman´s" post describes best why I made my reservation for a Model 3, And, because EM said earlier that towing will be available with Model 3. Otherwise, I shall drop my reservation (as many others might do as well in Europe) even I am very happy with my Model SD. I recommend Elon to speak...

Does the heating require A/C on?

Spot-on! DAVID99, let the car do the climatic control. Its sensors and hardware knows best. what to do. However, it never hurts to open doors and windows when the car was sitting in the sun for hours. But after, on the road, one should let the system do the job... meaning that one should not...

Does the heating require A/C on?

Its called reheat. To some of us it sounds paradox to turn-on heating and cooling (AC) simultanously. In older models one had to switch-on both indivitually. As in newer models it is done by just one button.. The way it works is pure phyics as we learnd it back in school: evaporation and...

    Tesla disrespecting clients in Portugal

In a way You are lucky that the Tesla Store is able to care (charge) the car. Just imagine if the car was sitting in a Customs car yard. It would be catastrophic to "brick" the battery because of stupid burocratic delays at Customs. Seen this happen with ICE Cars (or construction machines) when...

Tesla Class 8 Semi Truck Thoughts

You are absolutly right about US- situation. But look at China! Some days (depending on weather) there are 100s of cities which ban Cars from entering. Even in Europe I can name half a dozend Cities right now where Polution is so servere that some days one can not enter a city unless You live...

Tesla Class 8 Semi Truck Thoughts

Member BRANDO has given us some thoughts about carting away waste stuff from NYC. How about supplying such cities? Its again Elon who is thinking ahead. In a lot of populated areas, Park&Raid paces are being build outside the cities so, ICE-Folks, when they arrive can park their cars and move...

Error ID 1456, what does it relate to?

Right next to the glove box. Located somewhere in the middle of the Fuse panel. Refer to the rear of the Lid which covers the fuses.
  8. JOEV1

Error ID 1456, what does it relate to?

On the Passenger side behind the small removabele cover next to the glove box. The Labels for the fuses are on the back-side of the cover.
  9. JOEV1

Error ID 1456, what does it relate to?

Problem solved! The Fuse Nr. 23 (10A) was blown. Maybe the AC Compressor for the cooling circuit pulled a bit too high a current.
  10. JOEV1

Error ID 1456, what does it relate to?

After I was "pushing" going uphill a bit harder, I had the Message "Power System Service required" (together with "FAULT") I could not find ID 1456 in any listing. (cooling of HV and Battery?) Car drives and charges normally. When dismissing message it goes away but comes back after a while...

Replace worn PRND buttons (2.0/2.5) ?

IMO it is not so much wear as it is the effect behind the glass due to the lamp. I would call it more as "discoloring" the white background by temperature of the lamp. An LED would certainly have less "wear" as You put it.

Are current new ICE car buyers in for a huge depreciation surprise?

Depreciation is one... being allowed to drive in city areas will be another.

Has anyone gone from AWD Subaru -> RWD Model S?

Yes a wise decision for Your area. But allow me to mention: Over here in Europe and in Asia, there are times when You are not allowed to enter cities any more with an ICE-Vehicle. Paris, Stuttgart and soon, Vienna and Salzburg because of pollution. Every year other Cities will follow (Oslo) Now...
  14. JOEV1

Has anyone gone from AWD Subaru -> RWD Model S?

I will never go back to RWD simply because it not only saves on tires, but handles in snow conditions better. I have now experienced two winter season living on top of a 10 to 14% grade winding road. I fitted DUNLOPS WINTER SPORTS. Also I notice that AWD is even safer on a dry winding mountain...

No AWD for Model 3 until next year confirmed

Perfect Argument! On the other hand, there are virtually no more Drive Unit problems since MSD (simply because this enormous power Density is shared by two motors) and that would speak really for such option because of the numbers of M3 that are going to be on the road. I am sure EM dont want to...
  16. JOEV1

No AWD for Model 3 until next year confirmed

So EM has dropped the idea of producing M3 with more options right from start, because there is more money to make than with a bare bone version. I actually jupped on the bandwagon when Elon said that there will be a tow-hitch which my MSD does not have. Well, seems I will have to wait a little...

Female engineer sues Tesla, describing a culture of 'pervasive harassment

To me it seems that all those TESLA- opposing elements here at the forum are clinging onto the "last straw" trying to put a negative image upon the company. Needless to mention that this kind of discrimination happens everywhere and millions of times and unfortunatly- mobbing all over the globe...

There are two ways to slow-down time: 1.) Go to the Himalayas to meditate and become a Monk... or 2.) Wait for a TESLA ! I had the opportunity twice... and believe me... it was all worth it! Dual motor vs. RWD in winter driving.

Friend of mine had a P85+ for about a year. He lives at the top of a winding road. (about 15 km up the mountain) I ask him how was Your winter driving? He said no problem at all. (on winter tires of course) Now he is saying, since I got my Dual Motor, he feels much safer and relaxed going up or...

Unstable steering at speeds around 80 mph

Check Your tires! Maybe they are worn, specially if Yours is RWD car. It happend to me with my Roadster and realized that...

    What is All-Wheel drive worth?

Bet You had to worry about rubbers every 5 or 6000 Miles too :)
  24. JOEV1

    What is All-Wheel drive worth?

No question if I had to decide: 1.) Better range 2.) Better handling during acceleration in corners and in adverse weather and road condition (rain, snow, gravel etc.) 3.) Drive Units share power and will last longer / failure less likely

Why does Tesla use a Resistance Heater instead of Heat Pump

Very well put! In other words: the bigger Delta - t .... the lower the COP. Resistive heating is the simplest and most reliable form of heating! Specially when it is really cold outside. My suggestion is to preheat while plugged-in at home in the garage (set the timer) and one will use less...

    Does Model S 60 actually have a 75 battery?

Thank You Mike for Info. Just one more question: When the battery has been charged to 100%, there is no more recuperation on next 10 Miles or so. Does this apply also for the 60D?
  28. JOEV1

    Does Model S 60 actually have a 75 battery?

Thats interesting what OP mention about tapering (current) which normally happens during the last 20% of a full charge. Until now I was not sure that a 60D MS actually has a 75 kWh Battery. As the cell voltage reaches a certain level the BMS must reduce the current. Whithout the (necessary)...

Update to the Supercharger network policies

The way I see the strategy behind it, is that it will affect the sale of PW (powerwalls). With this in mind, owners can charge or fill-up a PW during the day by PV and charge the car from it when they get home.
  30. JOEV1

Is it worth it to use a supercharger as a local?

The only reason for me to use a SC which is about 30 Miles away was to demonstrate to friends how it works. Or if I am returning from a longer trip (lets say from Vienna) is to get home safely. Else I charge from my Grid-connected PV as a priciple because the rates for selling a kWh to the...

    Interesting article about the Roadster

Right, as I see in the last graph, the max efficiency is about 93% which is a rather small area. Yes, it is true, in this graph the areas of 92, 93% are much larger. But has the increased range of dual motor MS not something to do with optimized drive gear ratios? Otherwise I can not explain the...

    Interesting article about the Roadster

Maybe I am off topic here. But I still believe that range could be extended with a simple 2 or 3 speed Planetary Gearbox. I do not now what kind of Gearbox was used (and failed) in the earlier Roadsters. Take a look at German Autobahn speeds (in left line) where guys run at 120+ MPH. this is way...

Cost of Tesla Solar Roof Tiles

Fully agree with AM Postings: May I add that those slates / tiles / shindles would look equally good if wall-mounted (vertical on easterly and or westerly facing fasades) hence giving more power in morning and afternoon when the sun is low. Which applies in particular during winter months when...

My new solar and Powerwall installation

Anyone have a VHF/UHF transceiver in their car? If so, any RFI problems?

Glad that someone brought-up this subject. I got YAESU and ICOM gear waiting to get installed (HF/VHF/UHF). In an earlier BMW with no problem. My new solar and Powerwall installation

My understanding is, that Elon plans to harness the power during the day and charge the car with it during the night. Simply because, as it is now, when we get home from work and charge the car, the power must come from the utilities. And even if one has 40 kWp on the roof, it does not help one...
