Hackers show how they tricked a Tesla into hitting objects in its path

What on Earth were you doing on Drudge? It's not as if Drudge is a reliable source on anything.

Though this demonstration is not likely to take place in a real world environment considering the fact that the jamming device used in the experiment costs $90,000, it still highlights the rare edge cases that Tesla need to account for as they continue to drive forward in their development of “narrow AI” and fully autonomous vehicles. This couldn’t be more the case following the global media frenzy that ensued after Joshua Brown died behind the wheel of Model S while on Autopilot.

Of course if you position a powerful instrument directly in front of the car and flood the car sensors with powerful signals, it is bound to get blinded. What's the big deal?

How is this even hacking? Any sensible hacker worth their reputation should be ashamed of this.

This is like throwing a boulder on the path of a car - any car - and claim it has been hacked and the car crashed.

Say you hate uber and they have a lot of autonomous car, with a device ( that now is big and cost a lot, but of course we are planning for the future ), just jam the sensor and you are done. a lot of uber car crash and maybe you can kill someone, just for the fun of it..

The point is: it's good for tesla and other to consider some malicius attempt and consider that if the camera fail it's probably better to stop the car ( fail = laser jamming ), and that if you find the radar has a noise level too high someone is trying to put you out of the road, and so, it's better to stop and not ignore the fact that someone is trying to do something nasty.

Or you would prefer that your car in this case goes stright off the road or hit a big object?

I would say that someone could also try to paint the road in a way that point directly out off a cliff, and see if they can kill someone in this way when the car is full autonomus.

Yes, it's oblivius, it's not a "ohh you are a great hacker", the point is show the weak point of the system, be it a non firewalled port or a simple jammer

p.s. if you simply put a boulder in front of an autonomus car, the car stop itself. if you don't have enought time for stop, then it will at least slow down. but if you put something in front, and the car doesn't stop.. then you have a problem.

Unfortunatly there will always be opposition to Tesla. Some dont shy away to go to any length for what ever reason.
AP will never be 100% safe.
The only system which might offer a solution is Near Field Scanning using sensors in the Titanium Bottom Plate.
(which was origionally designed to protect the Battery.)
Together with Induction Coils inserted in the Asphalt which can guide and navigate the car. This system is already operating successvully in automated Warehouses.
One can compare such motoring with an electric Train or Railway. This offers a number of other advantages and could take over for inductive charging while travelling, Of course, it would only make sense on big Motor Ways where driving is generally tiresome and safty as well as Range is an issue.
The Battery can be smaller making the car less expensive and lowers the weight tec.

I think you are getting it in the wrong way.. they are not at all opposing tesla, they are tring to put strenght on tesla.
Ii would say that they are putting tesla as the best product, and if something fail on tesla they are sure that it will fail on other cars.
Not at all opposing, in fact tesla give money to people that find a bug/vulnerability for this reason.

Maybe so, but there are crooks out there who like to spoil Teslas success.
Remember the Battery fires? Maybe even those were a set-up.
Have You heard about any such or similar incidents afterwards?
