Infotainmente/MCU Upgrade Confirmed (US only for now)

I didn't get an email - was sent the link by a friend in the States. Seems to be US-only for the time being. Us Aussies will have to hold out and hope!

Infotainmente/MCU Upgrade Confirmed (US only for now)

As per the title: Infotainment Upgrade Also added a screenshot as you might be annoyingly and constantly redirected to the Australian site which won't show the actual page. For MS/X built March 2018 or prior. Maybe there is hope for AU customers down the track...

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

I've asked Tesla staff while the car's been in for service and they were pretty mum on the topic. But yeah, have heard those rumours for awhile. I'd do it assuming the cost isn't exorbitant.

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

And so I really hope in 3 years they're all gone...might be wishful thinking!

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

I feel that this may happen to me too...so I'm perversely hoping my MCU konks out just a month or two away from warranty expiry (which would be 2022 ish) - the logic being by then, there shouldn't be any new MCU1 units hanging around :D
  7. 1

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

Yes, which my car (late-2017/Feb-2018 delivery) has, as I'm sure many others do. I'm not implying this is some Tesla-specific issue. I'm quite familiar with flash memory wear profiles. The issue is the excessive logging in /var/ that needs to be remediated (if not done already). It's probably...

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

And even then, given Tesla's policy against third party repairs, you'd be voiding your warranty by getting anyone other than Tesla themselves to replace the MCU... sigh.
  9. 1

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

I'm seeing a lot more media coverage of the issue now as well (in addition to Inside EV's article). I guess when it's happening to the 2013 units, it's a matter of time as it sweeps across the 14s, 15s and so on.
  10. 1

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

Wouldn't mind being able to do this either. Good peace of mind. Hmm, I'd better drive my MS a bit more then to make 80k miles prior to the warranty expiring! I want MCU2! :D
  11. 1

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

The way I'm interpreting it is that a MCU-less car may be 'technically' drivable but practically undrivable - i.e. if your MCU died you probably wouldn't be driving your car until it's fixed again. I also recall one time when my MCU temporarily crashed and until I pulled over and restarted it...

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

As per the article, your MCU stops functioning and by extension, you will be unable to drive your car. The article also links to another TMC thread with more details.

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

An interesting read: UPDATE: Tesla Cars Have A Memory Problem That May Cost You A Lot To Repair Has anyone experienced this? My car's a late-2017 MY (Feb-2018 delivery) P100D Model S though I've only driven it 22,000km or so, and thus I don't expect it to happen any time soon. That said, the...

Vendor XPEL PPF (paint protection film)

Gosh. I miss out on the upgraded MCU and now this. Ah well, I guess it would be worse if Teslas stopped improving.

Vendor XPEL PPF (paint protection film)

Hmm, what would the one be on a late-2017 MS (Feb 2018 delivery)? At the time the online configurator still had the sunroof option but we didn't select that.

Vendor XPEL PPF (paint protection film)

I feel like I have to disagree here. It's uncomfortably hot on the top of my head in summer and almost every passenger that's ever been in the car with me has said the same. It becomes a bother when outside temps climb past 30C (which is happening more and more often as the years go by...). I've...

    Supercharger - Bathurst NSW

Oh awesome, thanks for that - missed the other thread (this one came up first in the search engine). Looks good - I last visited the Bathurst SC back when it was still a measly two-bay in that awkward, hard-to-find location. Glad to see a substantial upgrade.

    Supercharger - Bathurst NSW

Chanced across this (April 2019) article the other day: New station points to bright future for electric vehicles in Bathurst Has this actually happened yet? I'm presuming not.

    AU Pricing

Looks like my car's particular config is now about 78k cheaper vs 96k cheaper over the past few weeks. *shrugs* I guess That said you literally can't get my config any more (Obsidian black + cream interior) but do get ventilated seats (slightly jealous).

    AU Pricing

Welcome to the community! Fortunately, I don't feel too bad - as you said, I've had a year with the car prior to the price drop, and one can't really price 'supporting the mission'. I do hear the price drops will be partially reversed soon due to Tesla's about-face in keeping many stores open...
  22. 1

    AU Pricing

I'm slightly irrational here but because the LCT is a dino tax (no local OEMs to protect any more) and isn't something that Tesla as an OEM can directly influence, I'd be perfectly fine for my Tesla to drop in value commensurate to an overnight abolishment of the LCT.
  23. 1

    AU Pricing

Oh definitely. And all again, it would be reasonable to expect some negative emoting to come out of it as a result.
  24. 1

    AU Pricing

If you read my post history, you'll find that I'm pretty mild about the whole affair relatively speaking. Sure, I wish my car didn't depreciate like that, and I'm simply exercising a right to moan a little bit about it. But in the end the mission is the mission. I still believe that overnight...

    AU Pricing

While I want Tesla to succeed I sure hope that 35% price drops won't happen again. Price drops of that magnitude can only happen so many times before profitability is hit from pure COGS and if you want to hurt consumer confidence even more... The fact that many people complain about resale...

    AU Pricing

Interesting! I wasn't able to configure an MX to over 300k with everything included. The accessories would only add an extra grand or two. I'm Sydney too so curious... And I thought my 96k drop was bad, yours is close to 130k. Yikes.
  27. 1

    AU Pricing

I wasn't able to option a MX beyond 290k (back in Nov 2017; Feb 2018 delivery), are you including all the OTR costs (insurance, etc.) as opposed to the drive-away cost?
  28. 1

    AU Pricing

@360C I'm quite torn on this but I think I'm leaning more towards your camp. Paid $274k for my P100D outright (thank god I didn't finance...) and almost exactly one year later the same car (albeit no longer available in Obsidian Black/Cream Interior) is $178k, a near $100k drop. On the one...

Hearing all of these insanely high quotes, I am bracing myself for sticker shock when I renew in a month :(

I did hear rumours that QBE might have dropped them but for the time being, Valentine's under one of their policies.

Yes, this seems high. Check my post on page 1 - $2800 and that's for a P100D.

Any Aussies with front suspension rattle?

Ah, I see all the patchwork asphalt via Street View. Ok, your rattles must be worse than mine because my car will actually be okay over such a surface. It's usually where it's really rough gravel or actual holes of a certain depth (not too deep/pothole-like, but not too shallow either) that...

Any Aussies with front suspension rattle?

The annoying thing is that the roads around the St Leonards SC are ironically well-maintained, so it's always difficult to demonstrate the vibrations to the techs. It's when I take road trips out west that the going gets real nasty. Record video, record audio but they'll insist on being able to...

Any Aussies with front suspension rattle?

How do you tell that it's a suspension-specific rattle? My car also experiences rattling over particularly crappy surfaces but I'm never able to point the finger to a particular source.

Insurance. It is that time of the year again.

$2858 with InsureMyTesla, 2 drivers, 1.5k excess, covers all standard equipment + accessories, wall connector and the usual theft/loss clauses. No cover for tyres unless caused by another coverable incident, depreciation, or faulty design/workmanship (i.e. stuff Tesla would themselves cover...

Somethings I dont like about the "S"

Yes fair enough - I do understand where the value comes from. I guess it's one of those things that I haven't felt was 'missing', even as it would improve the experience if I had it. But then again, in those situations, it ends up being a call anyway. Agree that the rattles and whatnot...

Somethings I dont like about the "S"

I have read about far, far too many horror CPO experiences to genuinely believe that. But yes, in theory CPOs should still be better than on-market.

Somethings I dont like about the "S"

Ah sounds good. I think I'll try that next time I come across the sounds. One time I did record it but they still wanted me to demo it to them - luckily that was for a rattle that could be demonstrated.

Somethings I dont like about the "S"

Nice! When we first got Valentine she had even more rattles - Tesla did fix most of them but the current rattling is unfortunately really hard to detect, and somehow never seems to be demonstrable on the roads around the roads at Crows Nest :( There's another rattle directly in front of the...

Somethings I dont like about the "S"

I'll add two gripes of my own though: I don't like how there are still rattles in the car 'even though' mine is 'already' a 2018 model year. I can't imagine how bad some of the earlier ones must have been/are. I can live with it as I play music 99% of the time but when not, it can be a somewhat...

Somethings I dont like about the "S"

    1. Yeah, I agree. Though I was taught 'back in driving school' that you should - you know - use your head to manually check. I do it even with the V9 update showing me blind spot vehicles 2. I must say I've never actually felt the need for this feature - no SMS is that important and if it were...

Somethings I dont like about the "S"

I've numbered your quotes to give my take on each one. 1. Yeah, I'll probably be wishing for a spare if I ever get into a situation requiring it. However, I'm 'one of those Millennials' who doesn't even know how to change a tyre anyway *shrugs*. And as someone else posted - luxury sedans and...

    Further reduced configuration options S/X

Only rumours - but there are plenty of them, especially on Reddit. Most people think it'll be some time before Q2 2019. I'm glad I managed to nab the cream interior before this change. Neither of the two carbon fibre trims for the P100D appeal to me.

    Lte in Australia

About 4 months ago when Valentine was getting serviced, I got a loaner S75D that had the new MCU w/LTE. I was slightly bummed about that because at that time I had only taken delivery around 5 months earlier, so was probably one of the last batches to miss out on the new MCU. The smoothness of...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Wait so, if I hypothetically dropped $326k on the Founders' Edition, thinking that I'd have no more to pay, I'd be very wrong? I thought just like buying any other Tesla, all those added titbits would have been factored into the final price (which, yeah, would be an insane bargain).

I didn't need them, but did try to find them on the day - couldn't for the life of me find where they were! That said, the carpark was full that day so might have been sufficiently hidden by an ICE.
