    long term parking

When I park my 3 I turn off Recording, so the car is not continually saving camera footage. With Sentry Mode on it only saves clips if Se;ntry is activated. That saves a bit of energy. Tesla is addressing the issue in an upcoming update: Tesla works to slash Sentry Mode power usage by ~40%...

Can someone help me understand my FSD capabilities?

There is not 'other' FSD, Canada is receiving the same FSD versions as the US. So driving on city streets is included.

2024 Model 3 (Highland)- Spoiler improves or reduces range?

When I had the spoilers put on the body shop folks did not like double sided tape (same as on the Tesla stock spoiler). They said the tape usually fails over time. So they used epoxy, it isn't coming off.

2024 Model 3 (Highland)- Spoiler improves or reduces range?

Actually UP did an aerodynamic study on this: Tesla Model 3 Aero Efficiency Package A - Unplugged Performance and showed that it did indeed improve aerodynamics. I have both of these spoilers on my 3 and at highway speeds see about a 10% improvement.

The quest for the ultimate efficiency.

I don't have a performance 3, have a dual motor. but I've added some Unplugged Performance mods for efficiency: Tesla Model 3 Aero Efficiency Package A - Unplugged Performance At highway speeds I can get about 10% better aero dynamic efficiency. I also have this on order, with the diffuser fins...

Former Leaf owner, new to Tesla - is this a good deal on a used 2018 Model 3?

I have a 2018 model 3 Long Range All wheel drive that I bought new in 2018. It has 95,000 miles on it with no significant problems. The 2018 Long Range came out before the AWD version, during the production hell ramp up. I don't understand how a vehicle that was owned for over 5 years and...

Need advice for New Tesla owner making 800 mile trip

I've been tripping coast to coast for 5 years in my Model 3 and always use ABRP. If you set it up with all the variables such as battery degradation, reference speed, and maximum speed it will give you pretty accurate estimates of your charging needs. ABRP tends to be a little conservative and...

Model 3 - Chicago Area -Summer Tires?

That is a common practice among car manufacturers for sport versions - my 2001 Audi A4 with a sport suspension was delivered with summer tires in Pennsylvania in February. I drove directly to my tire shop and had winter tires, that I'd pre-ordered, put on. Ever since then I've kept two sets of...

    Tires Don't Hold Pressure

My TPMS sensors are off by about 2 PSI - lower than actual pressure. I've wondered if altitude affects them as I live at 6,000 feet.

    Tires Don't Hold Pressure

I check my tires about once a month - as weather changes so does air pressure. But losing that much air seems to be one or more of the problems mentioned by jjrandorin. I have a portable inflator from harbor freight - 20V Cordless 0-160 PSI Inflator - Tool Only It's very handy - use it to...

Tire Pressure Monitoring System Fault message after changing wheels..

I just had my winter wheels & tires put on my 3 this week. I also had trouble getting the TPMS sensors recognized. I went into Service Mode and under the Chassis section I reset the TPMS. Then when I reset the tire type in the Service menu they were recognized.

Going on first road trip (around 285 miles one way).. New owner.. Just a few questions. Thanks

If you don't need to charge to 100% then don't. Having a lower SoC at the SC won't affect your charge time too much - the lower the starting charge the faster the initial charging rate. I always use ABRP when planning a trip. ABRP tends to be a little conservative in its estimates, but the in...

Route planners with waypoints and battery level thresholds?

ABRP is not the easiest app to use, but it does what you're looking for. I use it to plan all my trips. It tends to be a little conservative in its calculations vs Tesla's on board app which is too optimistic.
  21. MJB-CO

    First Long Distance Drive

When I plan a road trip I use A Better Routeplanner (ABRP). It allows me to set the SoC for arrivals, and I'm conservative and set it to 20%. That way I have enough reserve for unexpected bad weather, traffic jams,, etc. without worrying about having to slow down. ABRP predictions tend to be...

Charging Error Notification, But It Still Charged? Error: CP_a054

I had this error back when the weather started to turn colder. In one of the software updates the charge port won't latch if the temperature is too low (it looks like below 40 F). This presumably was to prevent freezing in place. The car will charge normally al long as the handle is actually...

Higher efficiency, but still decent tires?

Yes, I have them on my 3 and I have about 10,000 miles on them. They are much more efficient then the MXM4s. I did a 5,000+ miles trip last fall and beat the range estimates of A Better Route Planner by 10 - 15% on each leg of the trip. With the MXM4s I might just match the ABRP estimates...
  27. MJB-CO

Higher efficiency, but still decent tires?

The acoustic foam is basically the same as what's in the MXM4s, but the tire's design is quieter. They are also designed to handle the heavier weight of an EV, hence the 50,000 treadwear gaurantee.
  28. MJB-CO

Higher efficiency, but still decent tires?

The best tire I've found is the PIRELLI P ZERO AS PLUS ELECT (235 /45 R18 98Y XL BSW) which is designed for EVs. The handling is terrific, has low rolling resistance (15% less than the standard P Zero AS), is quieter than the OEM MXM4s, and has a 50,000 mile tread wear gaurantee. Price was...

    Supercharging routing in the navigation

I just returned from a trip from Colorado to the LA area. I use ABRP to plan my trips. In ABRP's Settings there's a setting for Charging stops that ranges from: Few but long - Quickest arrival - Short but many. It will plan your route accordingly. There's also a setting under Battery for...

Passenger side (maybe B pillar) rattle, drives me crazy!

I had a similar issue on the driver side with my B pillar - rattling/buzzing. On the third visit I volunteered to go out with...

How important are regen settings in snow and ice ?

To quote an old Audi thread response where an owner complained about AWD when driving in winter with Summer tires, "Summer tires in cold weather have as much traction as a bowling ball on ice". This is my 5th winter season with my 2018 DM 3. I always drive with the regen setting on (option...

"Charge port latch not engaged" only for scheduled charging

I had this problem starting on 11/18 on my 2018 3. As others have mentioned it is triggered below 41F by design on my model year if charging doesn't start immediately, i.e. scheduled charging. However, I noticed other error messages in my Notifications - UMC-a012, CP_a139, and CP-a046. All are...

What is this headlight calibration setting mean? [not headlight, follow distance]

Officially it is car length - but the following distance changes with speed so it is actually seconds. For any state I'm familiar with legal following distance is 3 seconds, only setting 7 is close to legal.

would you considering sacrificing range to get extended tire life?

Based on your criteria you'd probably really like the Pirelli P Zero ALL Season Plus Elect.
  36. MJB-CO

would you considering sacrificing range to get extended tire life?

It's not necessary to sacrifice range for tire life. Pirelli has a tire specifically made for EVs - the P Zero ALL Season Plus Elect. It has a 50,000 mile tread life guarantee and 15% less rolling resistance than the non-EV version. I've had them on my 3 for 4,000 miles and am very pleased...

Any Hardcore Car Enthusiast Out Here? I Have Questions About Going to Model 3

Unplugged Performance did an aerodynamic study of the 3 and designed those spoilers for greater efficiency. They have the data on their website. UPP actually claims up to 12% for the two combined. Note that just adding the aero wheel covers on the stock 18" wheels adds 10% efficiency. So...

    Spontaneous Lane Change

Correction : If my 3 starts a lane change I don't want to make I just cancel the change, I do not reverse it. Note: Disabling Lane Changes for Speed in the NoA settings only disables the lane changes when on highways, it does not disable them in FSD Beta for street driving.

    Spontaneous Lane Change

Yes, it will only make safe lane changes. My 3 actually kept me from getting hit at high speed twice by aborting lane changes (on a highway). The problem is the lane changes are not always where I want to be, or logical in relation to the route plan.

    Spontaneous Lane Change

This is/has been normal for FSD at least since its October 2021 release to Beta testers. The automatic lane changes can go both left and right on any road that has multiple lanes. Also watch out for changes into incorrect turning lanes. When driving on highways we have the option to have FSD...

Can any shop do wheel alignment

On another note, my local Tesla SC says they cannot adjust the camber when doing an alignment - has anyone heard that? I've had the same tire wear pattern which would seem to indicate the camber is off.

Can any shop do wheel alignment

I'm not sure what it is, but when I dropped by my local body shop the owner said he kept the special piece when they moved even though he no longer has an alignment lift. I've checked with a few tire shops that do alignments, and they all agree that they are not equipped nor certified to do...
