What Kind of Car Did The Model 3 Replace?

2015 Golf TDI. It was part of Diesel gate, they bought it back and I got a Model 3

What to do with flooded streets? how high?

Obviously driving in standing water is not a best practice, but sometimes, during an extremely rain storm you're stuck on a road and knowing how deep you can cross without permanently damaging or frying the car is useful information.

Thoughts after 650 mile one-day Tesla drive

I did almost the same drive twice this month. It's funny you mention the Grants Pass stop, as it's one of the easier places to get food, it's a short walk to In N Out where we ate and to get there you walk past a Black Bear Diner. It's also across the street from a divey sports bar we stopped in...

Hydrophobic treatment on *rear* window? (Rain X/Aquapel)

Following up: Applied Aquapel to my windshield a month ago, hit my first serious rain on a Thanksgiving weekend road trip. Aquapel on the back window works great! Absolutely experience wiper chattering with the wipers on Auto 100% of the time 8 /. My Model 3 RWD LR is on 42.3 for what it's...

    Enough Superchargers for Thanksgiving?

A friend (S100D) reported a 35 minute wait for one of the 8 slots in Grants Pass, Oregon on Sunday in the early afternoon. Fortunately all 8 stalls were working, one of them was busted when I came through a month ago. I-5 between Portland and San Francisco will be helped out a lot when the...

    Five sightings in one day.

I forget how much of a bubble SF is, I see ~3-4 Model 3s that are parked outside when I walk my dog every day

    Enough Superchargers for Thanksgiving?

That's great that you can do that! With even a moderate sized family it can be difficult to schedule with various vacation times. For me it's one of the few times a year I can see extended family members together so for me it's worth the slog

    Enough Superchargers for Thanksgiving?

Yeah, what kbecks13 said. On the holiday weeks in California it isn't people leaving their cars in the spot that's the problem, it's basic capacity and throughput.

    Enough Superchargers for Thanksgiving?

The I-5 corridor between the Bay & LA have been a problem the last few years and while there's more capacity I expect there will be some meaty Supercharger lines for those traveling Wednesday & Sunday. I just stopped at The Kettleman City supercharger yesterday driving back to SF, that station...

Recommend a Sub Trunk / Cargo Area mat?

Through some more searching found a ToughPro mat that you can buy on its own for $30. Love the price, unfortunately there's no lip on the sides at all, which would be nice ToughPRO Tesla Model 3 Storage Mat

Recommend a Sub Trunk / Cargo Area mat?

I've got all weather mats everywhere in my car except for the sub trunk (Tesla calls it the "Cargo Area" in the manual below, but that's not very descriptive). I just went on a road trip and stored a bunch of tailgating stuff down there and realized for the first time I'd like some protection...

Fair compensation from Tesla regarding bad delivery experience

Thanks for the update! I'm curious how this ends up, I hope it's resolved to your satisfaction and you can focus on enjoying the car!

Fair compensation from Tesla regarding bad delivery experience

It's absurd. It's like people can't accept that a company can do both good and bad things. Yes, it's the best EV by a mile and also they have clear and serious manufacturing and service issues and that's not ok. All those things can be true, I don't understand the urge to defend a 50 billion...

Random part fell off my Model 3 charge panel

I had the same thing happen, I called service and explained a parallelogram shaped piece had fallen out of my charge port door and they sent out tesla mobile service to replace the entire charge port door, they didn't charge me. If you google it this is an extremely common problem, I'm...

Model 3 glass repair in San Jose California area

Hey! I'm getting my Windshield replaced in San Francisco for my Model 3 (just a rock, not a break in), and a word of caution, Tesla service on the phone scheduled me to get my windshield replaced at the van ness SF location. after time passed and my appointment was two days away, The Van Ness...

Fair compensation from Tesla regarding bad delivery experience

Getting back on the original topic, I'm not sure what appropriate compensation would be, but I recommend looking into if your state has lemon laws. It sounds like it might be appropriate here and as a bonus a friend whose Model S had a myriad of issues got much more attention when he mentioned...

Fair compensation from Tesla regarding bad delivery experience

Of course you should be nice to the Tesla reps, they have a hard job and have to deal with a lot of angry people, in part due to widespread manufacturing issues. But it's not the customer's responsibility to assuage a corporation's feelings when they're the ones who've screwed up. And supplying...

Fair compensation from Tesla regarding bad delivery experience

It's complete bullshit and you absolutely deserve compensation. The reality is what you should do is ask for a refund and get a car made by another company. Tesla has its head up its ass when it comes to reliability and service and thanks to huge demand they don't think they have to do anything...

Pushing turn signals "Fully" requires excessively strong force?

Holding it up or down doesn't work for me reliably. Works about half the time. Really need to *bounce* it off the bottom or top for it to trigger reliably. This post is making me think there is something wrong with my turn signals.
  21. redscott

Pushing turn signals "Fully" requires excessively strong force?

Most other cars just stay in place by themselves. I'm only aware of Tesla & BMW that have them return to center. Either way, the point is this being my 4th car (previous cars being two hondas and a VW), it takes way way more force to engage the continuous turn signal than I've experienced. I'm...

Pushing turn signals "Fully" requires excessively strong force?

To engage "continuous" turn signals or auto lane change, the Model 3 requires you press the level fully up or down. For 800 miles I couldn't get it to work reliably by pushing the turn signal stalk all the way down or up and holding it there. I finally figured out that if I quickly apply enough...

Is there a tangible downside to not leaving your Tesla plugged in?

I have seen it! But it’s light on details and sounds like it doesn’t matter as long as your battery has a sufficient charge. I’d rather charge and unplug, then avoid one of my neighbors clipping the charge plug. Unfortunately not blessed with a private garage.
  24. redscott

Is there a tangible downside to not leaving your Tesla plugged in?

I re-read the statement from the manual and I think you’re right. It’s the charge level itself that maximizes battery life, not the fact that it’s plugged in. In that case I think if I charge the car to 70% after using it then unplug it and leave it unplugged for a few days after charging it...
  25. redscott

Is there a tangible downside to not leaving your Tesla plugged in?

The core question I have is, when the manual says– "When plugged in, Model 3 wakes up when needed to automatically maintain a charge level that maximizes the lifetime of the Battery." What is the Model 3 doing that "maximizes the lifetime of the Battery". And by not leaving it plugged in, am...

Is there a tangible downside to not leaving your Tesla plugged in?

My current usage is no driving for several days in a row (occasionally, rarely, more than a week) and then driving ~120 miles in a day. My current charging strategy is any time i driving more than a dozen miles I’m charging it to 70% (~220 miles) per Jeff Dahn’s Recommendation, then unplugging...

Is there a tangible downside to not leaving your Tesla plugged in?

This is my intuition, would love if someone had a Tesla source that confirmed there's no long term problems with this approach.

Is there a tangible downside to not leaving your Tesla plugged in?

There have been a thousand threads on the question of the optimal charging strategy. Inevitably (and reasonably), someone will point to the manual, which reads: And as the manual notes, the Model 3 uses energy for system tests and recharging the 12V battery. It's also a DIRE problem if you...

Dashcam missing the exact min when the accident happened... any way to retrieve?

Yep! From the linked page: "Under Mac OS X, start PhotoRec (ie testdisk-6.13/photorec). If you are not root, PhotoRec will restart itself using sudo after a confirmation on your part. Sudo will ask for a password - enter your Mac OS X user password." Direct mac download link here

Dashcam missing the exact min when the accident happened... any way to retrieve?

I used to work in filesystems, and a handy (though moderately complicated) tool to recover media is PhotoRec (link). It's especially useful because it just examines the drive for things that look like media, it ignores any filesystem data. Which means it can be possible to recover media even if...

Honestly would love a mode that was Sport mode under my control, Chill mode under autopilot. If I'm in Autopilot I probably just want to chill, listen to a podcast/tunein, and eat up some miles.

    RWD Appreciation

0-60 in 5.1!!! The RWD Tesla is incredibly quick, whether or not the claims of longer range are true. Reading the forum you'd get the idea that the car only had two wheels or something. Unless you plan on regularly driving in the snow/ice or at the track I can't imagine it'd make much difference.

Hydrophobic treatment on *rear* window? (Rain X/Aquapel)

Ceramic coating - Applying ourselves Vs. Professionally??

Some formulations of Ceramic coating needed to be baked onto the care to cure, it was just part of the process, this was more common when coatings were new. A lot of them would require you bake the car for an hour after application before wipedown. CQuartz "UK" is a reference to the weather in...

Did you get PPF and Ceramic for your Model 3? [POLL]

PPF is expensive and seems like overkill. Never needed it, not sure why it's suddenly crazy to not have it. I did the Ceramic coating myself. First time, DIY with a buddy. Wash/Decon/Polish/Ceramic took us about 8.5 hours and we'd never done it before. Since he had a DA polisher, spent <$100 on...

    New Model 3 floor mats

I like the looks of these mats. The white seamless backdrop photos look terrible, but the installed photos look pretty good.
