Take out HV batt pack / cut out bad cell? (S P85+)

How is it that people are able to take modules from these older S/X packs and do EV conversions with them? Are they always using modules from the same donor pack? Are these systems unsafe due to the mismatch? Do they have a better way to balance than what is built into the Tesla pack? Is the...

Slight chance that improves things. They seem to know exactly what causes the issue and in over 2 years they haven't fixed it. You'd think a slight component redesign to make it a little tighter or the latch a little more springy is all that's necessary. That's what it the latch issue sounds...

Why refuse to tape it? Takes a few minutes and fixes the issue. I had to remove and re-apply tape after a year. Not ideal, but better than dealing with the constant creaking.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

There's no reason for either of those things to have to wait for a significant refersh. The design and wiring for those features has been nearly complete since launch. There is even precedent in China of adding RGB to the existing Model Y (dashboard only). Who knows what's holding it up, maybe...

How well does phone key work compared to the old key fob?

You don't need to wait for the app to connect before pressing a button. That loading is for the internet-based connection to get the car's status but if you are within Bluetooth range the commands will work over Bluetooth immediately. If your app isn't connecting over Bluetooth and must send...

Did we ever figure out what happened with those? I don't recall anyone saying they were delivered a car that was half a year old. I remember while they were there gathering dust, new ones were rolling off the line and being delivered.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

EPA rating on the Palladium LR with 19" wheels appears to be 238 wh/mi according to Teslamate. That makes sense with 405 miles corresponding to 96.4kWh usable. I was able to achieve that this summer when driving on small highways going about 55mph. My old 2018 P100D with 19" wheels had 310...

USS was removed in early 2023. You can find some early 2023 VINs (manufactured late 2022) that are the second version of Palladium (SOP15 with new lights, HW3, with USS, without radar). According to this page https://service.tesla.com/docs/ModelS/Circuit_Reference/Palladium/ SOP16 started...

Is Elon harming the future of Tesla?

Spaceship man bad. He must be happy that the competition mostly sucks. Cybertruck competition doesn't though.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I think people are mainly concerned if there was an actual change to the cars other than the EPA rating. Tesla did reduce the pack size going from Raven to Palladium by a small amount, and we're concerned they reduced it yet again. A 35 mile reduction for the Plaid isn't insignificant.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I have no idea, but the exception mentioned earlier could very well be it. LR could still be using the old rating, while the Plaid got a new rating possibly due to the new sport seats that were leaked a couple months ago.
  15. BPeter

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I don't think so. Both LR and Plaid have a mode that the manual says conditions the battery (Insane and Plaid), although no one seems to notice any actual efficiency difference using this mode. I leave my car in Insane at all times and it doesn't appear to be doing anything over Sport for...

So the Plaid got significant changes but the LR did not? I guess if the Plaid is getting those new sport seats that could have triggered the new range test. But the LR did get a new higher range on the 21".

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

This is weird. Acceleration mode should have no impact on the EPA cycle. Will the ride height impact be severe? Worst case scenario for ride height is disabling auto lowering and setting it to high, but at highway speeds it still automatically forces it down to normal. Could that really account...

Low Plaids FS (Tesla Used Inventory)

The service manual had a procedure for new Plaid specific sport seats (Tesla leaks new Model S sports seats for Plaid version) Probably RGB too, support for that has been there since the launch

    App transfer-Used From Dealer

Maybe it's fast on cars where the previous owner has released ownership, and manual on cars where the previous owner has not done so.

Looks like Tesla brought back the standard range Model S and X!

The Palladium isn't compatible with the old style batteries which those 90kWh batteries are.

Model S/X minor refresh coming soon?

The matrix headlights on the S are a massive improvement over the old reflectors even if none of the matrix functionality is being utilized. The old lights were so terrible.

TIL: Plaid acceleration mode continually conditions battery and affects HVAC?

The refresh doesn't have Insane+, it has drag strip mode which is basically the same thing. Yes that uses a lot of energy.

Hmm I wonder if that's true. I leave mine in Insane mode and it's very efficient.

    2018 P100D Brakes...

The issue with the brakes is when you are using them repeatedly. A single use should be able to stop the car fine.

How well does phone key work compared to the old key fob?

It's not as reliable or as accurate, but the convenience of not carrying a fob is worth it for me. My new S auto-presenting handles only auto-present about half the time with my phone key but my old S worked >99% of the time. Just pressing the handle wakes it up and presents them though.

What is the re-sale value of plaids?

This has happened multiple times already why would you expect any difference? Especially knowing the price increases were due to supply and demand mismatch.

The sunroof in the older S is really great. It was very hard giving it up when I traded my P100D for the new LR.

does refreshed model S come with ultra sonic sensor?

HW3 cars built in 2021-2022 have USS, HW4 lose the USS and get better cameras and radar. I don't think they'll work as well as USS at the front of the car because they still haven't added a fascia camera so there is a large blind spot.
  34. BPeter

HW4 and Center Horn on 2023 Model S?

Brain dead Model S in cold region

This sounds like a bug I had in ~2021 with my 2018 P100D. The bug lasted about a year before a subsequent update fixed it. I also started lowering the charge threshold so it wouldn't do that. Big waste of energy. It would wake up constantly when it barely lost any energy to top off. It hadn't...

Does no line on emblem mean no Ludicrous mode on 2018 p100d?

The line may have fallen off, or possibly the car was originally sold without Ludicrous mode if it was purchased in the early 2019 firesale. When they "removed" Ludicrous mode on those cars during the sale, some actually had it disabled but the majority actually retained it. If it was a lease...

    Refresh Gear Selector Lights

The lights come on automatically if the MCU takes too long to wake up. "Too long" is a pretty short time frame, like 3 seconds in my experience. Usually the MCU wakes instantly but I've had maybe 5-10 instances in the 7 months that I've had the car where the lights lit up on their own. MCU woke...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

I've had this happen a few times. The issue for me is when I'm trying to switch direction but still moving too fast, the car lets you swipe the screen and does the animation but nothing happens. It should either disable the swiping UI or it should make the error beep if the direction wasn't changed.

I have a winter wheel and tire set with 19" silver slipstreams (245/45R19) and Pirelli Sottozero 3 tires that I purchased from Tesla for use on my 2018 P100D. This weekend I installed them on my 2022 Model S (Long Range / Refresh / Palladium) and they fit fine. They're not as wide as the...

    Tail Light Retrofit

This is the pre-Palladium Model S? I am pretty sure they switched to busbars in the Palladium S. Easier to assemble. Part #7 Back when the Palladium parts catalog was first uploaded there were two versions of the busbar showing in the diagram, along with two different charge ports visible in...

    Tail Light Retrofit

The charge port area is isn't actually larger with regards to the exterior body panels. It's just that the charge port extends further back into the taillight than it used to, this allows a larger area to install the charge port into. I think it is mounted an inch or two further towards the...

    Tail Light Retrofit

The openings in the body body appear to be exactly the same to me. The charge port is likely going to be an issue though. Back when the EPC showed both styles they looked quite different and I believe included different busbars down to the battery pack.
