2019 Interior Choices

The choices, as we probably all know, for the model S long range are severely restricted and, quite honestly, terrible.

Black / Black - just so dour

Cream seats / oak wood decor - dreadful, that light wood effect is like something from the 1950's.

Black / white seats - not for me.

Can't understand why the cream seats option doesn't have a carbon fibre, or dark wood trim option as my 2017 model S 90D has.

There are no options apart from these and the sales team cannot help except to suggest sending to an aftermarket interior trim specialist - really helpful.

Was ready to transfer funds and buy a second Model S but that's now gone and I'm looking around for an alternative. Problem is there isn't one that has the supercharger equivalent in the UK.

I do wonder if, although he denies it, whether there's a refresh coming.

Maybe !!!

I like the fact that all wood is matte, instead of the high gloss. The latter just shows more finger prints and potentially reflects light when it is not supposed to. So, to me, it's "glossy" that seems way outdated.

The oak trim with its fine structure looks like a rift cut. That reminds me of upscale modern Scandinavian furniture. I like it when combined with the cream interior. It wouldn't really fit with the other colors.

The trim I personally dislike is the glossy synthetic wood that comes with the white seats. The carbon would be a better option, but is only available in the performance models.

My car has the matte obeche, which is still my favorite.

You can see, it's a matter of personal taste... Mine is quite different from yours. That doesn't mean we could not be friends, though. :D

You can have em change the dash to any decor. Having my dark wood changed to the light oak. $928 installed any dash they have.

Fire Away!

There are several aftermarket companies that offer real carbon fiber trim options in multiple finishes and colors! OCarbon.com has a great selection.

I've been waffling over the interior color.

Black: I'm thinking this would provide the clearest views up through that glass roof, and I do appreciate a glass roof. I remember when I had a Model X loaner with the ultra white seats, and I looked upward and saw. . . white seats reflected back at me. Black seats would solve that. However, I also live in Texas, and black seats can get pretty hot in the sun, not to mention warming the whole interior. Also, black just looks. . . kind of drab and claustrophobic.

White: It's a bold look, and I think it would be great paired with a bold exterior color. I'd like to have my car wrapped, and I do want a vivid color. (I'm tired of seeing black, white, gray cars everywhere I look.) But although the white interior looks fantastic at first glance, I'm thinking maybe it would become harsh on the eyes and get old after a while.

Cream: This is the most pleasant to my eyes, and it matches my sense of style. I have a mid-century modern home, and that's the kind of look I gravitate towards. I'm not sure it would be the best match for every exterior color, though. I also haven't seen any good photos of a recent production example. The only clear photo I've seen is the one on the official configure-and-order page, and I'm not sure I completely trust that.

For example. . . Currently the configurator shows the A-pillar finished in black material. All the real-world photos I've seen from older cars showed a beige/cream color there. If anyone has photos of the cream interior as it is now produced, could you possibly point me towards them?

Cream interior MS got cream carpet and headliner up until mid Oct 19 when Tesla “upgraded’ it to black carpet and black headliner which is current production. So glad I have an earlier car with the lighter carpet and headliner. And even with it, there’s still way too much black in the interior: Kick panels, door sills, seat belts, most of the door card, steering wheel and column and front seat backs - all black.

Most other premium cars have fully, or mostly color keyed interiors. It’s an important part of what sets premium cars apart from econo - boxes. Wish Tesla would learn this.

Thanks for clarifying that. I was wondering why the Tesla website showed the headliner in black while most examples I've seen were light colored. As for myself, I actually prefer the black headliner and carpet. I think they provide a bit of sharp contrast that makes it look contemporary.
