In Self-Powered mode, you can set the % of battery charge as Reserve for Power Outages.

Today, to maximize available power for outages, today you can manually increase the % level in the winter (with shorter days) and decrease the % in the summer (with longer days).

If there was a DYNAMIC RESERVE setting, the Gateway could automatically adjust the reserve %:
  • If the maximum daily charge (over several days, to account for cloud cover) is below 90%, the reserve % would be increased
  • if the maximum daily charge exceeds 95%, the reserve % would be decreased
This would automatically maximize the available charge for outages, and eliminate the manual adjustments users make with the today's settings.

This shouldn't be a difficult feature for Tesla to add...

To add to your comment, if the gateway could use a weather forecast, much like wifi connected irrigation controllers do, to change the reserve based upon predicted sunshine, that would seem to be even better. The weather prediction mode would also seem to be a perfect compliment to the storm watch feature.
