Another reason to wait - radar coming back?

If you read the article, you will see that, in typical electrek fashion, they dont know for a fact what radar is being talked about, etc. Its basically a clickbait article from them, which is fairly typical of that particular website.

Read it yourself if you havent and see if you see anything definitive, or a bunch of " it might be" stuff.
 
what function did radar previously serve for people that didn't buy EAP or FSD?
It was used in standard autopilot and cruise control to detect the distance from the car in front. It still needed cameras to identify all cars in front of your vehicle and figure out which lane they're in.

Tesla was having trouble matching the low resolution data from the radar with the cameras, so to avoid false positives they now focus on the camera input only.

Musk did say earlier this year that Only very high resolution radar is relevant which is why there's now speculation that this new 77GHz radar is what he was talking about. I guess we'll find out for sure in a few weeks.
