Can I make a newer steering wheel fit an older car?

I had a new Shanghai Model Y on lease that I bought a 3rd party steering wheel from and had to remove it when the lease ended. I've now bought an older Fremont car but the airbag release holes are in the older position. Do you think it would be possible for me to just drill 2 new holes in the side of the 3rd party steering wheel or would I risk never being able to release the airbag again?
