Well, that was quick:

This churn at the top is not good. Given that Chris's main strength is in language design and running complex software projects, I'm going to speculate that Tesla (meaning Elon) decided that they were not ready for the necessary discipline required for production quality AP software. This worries me a bit.

Seems to me that Karpathy is a much better fit than Lattner. Given the slow pace of AP2 improvement, it just doesn't appear that Lattner was doing a good job. I'm glad that Tesla is proactive in making changes no matter the optics.

Agreed that based on CV, Karpathy seems a better fit, but the six month tenure for Lattner isn't encouraging. Possibly he was hired in desperation. Given his tweet, I'd say it wasn't his choice to leave.
