Cleaning the steering wheel?

Just read an article on Jalopnik that made me feel ill about my steering wheel. For rentals I usually use my hand sanitizer, but I'm not sure if that's the best for our steering wheel. Any advice?

Most mild or medium-strength cleansers will work well for cleaning the steering wheel and upholstery. Spray Nine, Clorox wipes, etc.

I've been using Chemical Guys InnerClean to clean the interior including my door panels, steering wheel, seats and trunk cargo mat and it's been working well - Chemical Guys - InnerClean - Interior Quick Detailer & Protectant (1 Gal)

I use Formula 409 w/anti-bacterial on all my steering wheels, interior door handles, center arm rests, etc. It's great at removing the body oils that are common from touching these surfaces regularly. The anti-bacterial takes care of germs. I've been detailing cars for years and it's always been my go to product for deep cleaning these surfaces. Just spray and let soak for 30 seconds and then take a wet washcloth and remove. You'll be stunned at how much crap builds up on these surfaces!

I thought I read that the steering wheel is real leather, no? or vegan leather?
