Does anyone have a Model S and a Rad Mini folding electric bike?

We are thinking about buying a Rad Mini 4 and a Rad Mini Step Through, both folding electric bikes, and curious if anyone with a Model S has one or both of these folding electric bikes.

If anyone has one of these, could you please post a photo showing how it fits inside a Model S? I'm hoping I can fit both a folded Rad Mini 4 and a Rad Mini Step Through in the back of our car.

Also curious if you've found any type of a case or storage container to make sure the bikes do not scratch or mar the interior of the car. Even if I have to make a panic stop, I want to make sure the bikes don't cause scratch or cause any damage to the interior.

67 and 69 lbs. respectively!!

I hope you have a chiropractor or back specialist on retainer if you are going to be bending over to get them in and out of your S. I’m an X guy with a bike rack. My understanding is that you can add a hitch to the S. Highly recommend you do so. Get a 1Up bike rack. I’ve owned every major brand of rack over the years. They are the best! Super Duty version can handle the weight. Adding a hitch and this rack will be way cheaper than your first chiropractic appointment.

Good luck which ever way you go. Ride more, drive less. Stay safe. Take care.

Thanks! I'm starting to realize buying folding electric bikes to carry two in the car is not the dream I had imagined it would be due to the weight and bulk, plus not wanting to damage the interior of the car in ANY WAY.

I was originally thinking about two Term Vektron S10 2nd Generation bikes but those are $3,500 each and $7,000 is a lot to spend to have two bikes to carry around and I was intrigued by the $1,500 cost of a Rad Mini 4. The Vektron weighs "only" 48 lbs and if I were to carry it in the car, I'd have someone to help me put it in the car.

So does no one transport a folding electric bike of any type in your Model S? Would love to hear more opinions of those who might have considered or gone this route.

Not exactly what you are asking, but my daughter has a Rad City Step thru, which is quite a bit bigger than the Rad mini. It fits inside my X without removing the wheels ( with the seats folded down) quite easily. Leaving the front wheel on helps in lifting the bike into the rear hatch by allowing the front wheel to roll towards the front on an angle while lifting the back end of the bike into the car. It is very heavy.
I have only done this a couple of times when it was raining and it wasn't too bad.

I do have a hitch mounted bike rack but since the Rad is a step thru model there is no way to hang the bike on it, plus I don't trust that it would hold all that weight. I keep the rack for my carbon frame bikes. Even then, If I am alone, I usually just toss my bike inside the car.

From what I remember, the S is almost as spacious as the X except for height.

I have an older RadMini folding electric and I often put it in the back of my S with the back seat folded up (not down). If the back seat was folded down you could probably fit two in there. FWIW, to reduce stress on my back, after folding the RadMini I lift it to the edge of the trunk and roll it in, and when taking it out I also roll it to the edge and then lift it down. Of course I first take out the battery which weighs about 10 lbs.

I keep an electric scooter similar to the Bird/Lime scooters in the back on trips where I know i'll be supercharging or potentially parking far from my destination. I bought it used on craigslist for about $150.

I found folding bikes to be too bulky in the back for my taste, and they would roll around and rattle due to all the moving parts. the scooter fits in the lower trunk storage, and is quiet in there.

I also have a Schwinn 700c bike that I converted to a 1500w e-bike, but it doesn't fold...that one is my neighborhood cruiser.

Did you end up purchasing one, and did it fit on your Model S?
