The mortgage strategy being discussed is actually a popular one in Australia.

The downside is that it takes discipline and you need to keep up on it to make sure that you do NOT spend more than you make or your HELOC balance due will grow instead of shrink.

Here's how I got my house for free:

I planned to buy 15 Bugatti veyrons but then I didn't. House was free based on interest saved.

This advice is every bit as good as OP's.

PS: Paid off my house, just installed solar on my roof. 100% coverage on my power including car. Still got to pay 5k a year for tax+insurance.

I guess the only difference for me is that instead of having imaginary Bugatti’s, I added a Model 3 to the house I already had for the same cost of paying the mortgage.
