Iced EV chargers legislation

Has anyone heard of, or yourself contacted your Congressman or Senator to introduce legislation to fine parking violators similar to Handicap parking violations. I’m thinking this may be the best approach as I see the problem only getting worse in the future.

EV charging is not the same as disabled parking.

The property owner should be contacted to have the vehicle removed. I'd like to see more active response to that. Especially considering it's impeding on a service provider's ability to do business.

EV charging spaces need to be better thought out as well. They're often in prime parking locations and ripe for being blocked. The Little Rock Zoo installed four great free chargers. They put them in the four parking spaces that are nearest to the entrance to the Zoo. I feel correct in saying the vast majority of EV owners would rather the chargers were at the back of the parking lot and have a longer walk but a higher likelihood of the spaces being available.

And last, MOST EV charging spaces are open to general use for a short period. That's the case in any that I cared to pay attention to at gas stations. They all had signs with 15 to 30 minute "general parking".

In Florida, where the OP is from you can already be ticketed.

(3)(a) It is unlawful for a person to stop, stand, or park a vehicle that is not capable of using an electrical recharging station within any parking space specifically designated for charging an electric vehicle.
(b) If a law enforcement officer finds a motor vehicle in violation of this subsection, the officer or specialist shall charge the operator or other person in charge of the vehicle in violation with a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as provided in s. 316.008(4) or s. 318.18.

That's generous. Other places ban parking in an EV charging space except to charge a PEV, which is how it should be. Not just about ICEing. Some EV owners abuse EV charging spaces to get a free or convenient parking space.
