During the 24hr validation testing of the production 2019 Corvette ZR1, GM engineer Jim Mero pushed the $123,000 Corvette around Virginia International Raceway to a 2m37.25s lap.

Yes, that is a record for all production cars. Yes, that includes the stunning $845,000 Porsche 918, and the $450,000 Ford GT. Ford used professional racer Billy Johnson a week earlier to set the record at 2m38.62s to beat the Porsche's standing record by 0.1 seconds.

Ford's record did not stand a full week and was bested by a full 1.37 seconds.

Congrats out to Team Chevrolet!

Ehh, a fast lap time doesn't make a hypercar. Impressive nonetheless.

True, it lacks the price tag and probably won't be limited production nor require MFR management pre-approval of buyers.

It will be interesting to see what they squeeze out of it at Nurburgring. The Camaro just lapped at 7m16s, with 105 less HP, and 300+ more pounds, a higher CG, less rigid chassis, and less neutral weight bias.
