Left Taillight Replacement - 2015

My left taillight has a rock chip in it, and I'd like to replace it. Only problem is, the charge port is integrated into it, so I have to disable the High Voltage system. I've read how to do it, but all the Tesla docs require that I check the voltage at the rear driver inverter with special gloves. How do other DIY'ers do this? Is checking voltage at the charge port itself sufficient, since that's the only part I need to work with? Have you seen a video or DIY guide for the left taillight?
