Loose connector in passenger footwell?

Is this supposed to be connected somewhere or is it some sort of diagnostic connection? It was up tucked away and dropped down when I was poking around there.

Yes, that's the diagnostic connector. You can either tuck it back up, or better yet, get an OVMSv3 module and make good use of it.

haha! the exact same thing happened to my roadster! I bought OVMS so now it's all good in the hood!

That is the diagnostic connector. Back in the day, its original purpose was for Tesla engineers to be able to connect to the car's communication networks for diagnostics and firmware updates.

Nowadays, with no more firmware updates, the main purpose (as others have pointed out) seems to be connect OVMS.

Same diagnostic connector as OP.

Should be plugged into an OVMS module to keep it neat, tidy, and out the way

lol! my OVMS is neat & tidy, velcro'd to the wall, but the port / connector / wires is dangling a bit . . .

Red Herring. It's apparently an ODB-II port to nowhere . . . or not where these things typically connect to

OBDII. It is connected and useful (for things like reprogramming TPMS), but doesn't have an OBDII compatible ECU behind it so won't work with things like Torque or any of the other OBDII accessories.
