Model S delivery mysteriously cancelled

Has anyone else had this happen?
Last night, about an hour after I transferred the money for the down payment, we got a call cancelling today's delivery appointment. The delivery scheduler cited a "failed inspection" but could or would not provide any details of what failed, or how long it would take to repair. Our "delivery specialist" has been incredibly hard to reach - disappearing for 12 days after I submitted my trade-in documents (I ultimately rejected their offer).

So here I sit in the dark, having paid my money with no idea when my car might appear.

Any suggestions on how to find out what is going on?

The story gets stranger. Last night we were called by a new delivery specialist saying it was all a misunderstanding, that the car is fine, and scheduled us for delivery tomorrow. We still don't know what triggered them cancelling the delivery the first time. Fingers crossed that the car is ready tomorrow!

At least they called you to cancel the delivery. I ordered an inventory car with 5k miles and paid the whole amount 2 days before the scheduled delivery date (yes the whole 101k). A day before, I called the pickup center in Buena Park because nobody called me to confirm the pickup date (like what they did for my other Tesla that I leased in 2016). The delivery specialist told me that the car has not yet shipped to the center. And he rescheduled me to pick up the car 1 week later. They never called me. I always had to call them. And here is the car that I picked up last week.

Looks beautiful (and very much like the one we are getting -- a red model S -- although we went with the cream interior.) I can't imagine any "shipping" problems from the factory to the Fremont delivery center a mile away. We need to go further to get from BART to the delivery center ;-)

Buena Park SC is no bueno. They let my parent's Model X sit in the parking lot below 40mi for almost a week while waiting for parts but I was having such a hard time getting through their phone line. I'm wondering if the Costa Mesa one is any better.

Considering it was apparently a quick turnaround, could have been anything like the MCU not booting up due to some cabling issue, problem with the charge port. We found out we had a defective charge port after picking up our car last year. Didn't realize until we went to charge (always went red) and thankfully weren't so low in battery power that we couldn't make it to the Service Center to drop off. Once they had the parts, it was a quick fix. Could be something like that. But yes, I have heard people unfortunately getting that call. Worse case is when some delivery person or someone else hits the car (unloading off carrier, backing up in the parking lot, etc)--have seen a few people's accounts of that.

Just check it over carefully and don't be afraid to ask if they know what the issue was. We love our Model S. It's a beautiful car and wonderful to drive. Hope your delivery goes well.
