What I do is plug the car into the dryer outlet.

I usually charge the car from the grid. My wall connector is not backed up by the PW, nor is it measured by the PW. Charging the car from the PW for me would only be in the unlikely event of needed to charge the car during grid outage. But the plan in that case is to back the car into the garage so the cord will reach to the dryer outlet. With only 1 PW, I might need to decrease the car charging amps to avoid drawing more than PW can handle.

I do have solar, and the PW has allowed us to keep the lights on during a couple of multi-day outages. It hasn't happened since we got the Model Y, though, so this is mostly a contingency plan. Still, a full charge of the car would take 4 days of summertime solar...
