Range Extendee

in 2013 plus or minus I was at a Tesla dealership and they offered an optional range extender as a gas generator that partial recharged batteries. I am now being told by the dealer this never existed. All the research I’ve done seems to confirm the dealers comments but I did not dream about this. Can anyone shed some light?

They were thinking about offering a range extender early on in the Model S but that idea was scrapped. A range extender was never actually offered.
