I was wonder before the multi coat red what was the red color before that? Or was multi coat red the first ever red released on all teslas? Im asking because i noticed the multi coat red on new cars a have brighter, shinnier look to it then older teslas. The older red looks faded, and not as bright. Does the paint on these cars really fade that quickly in a span of just 6/7 years?

It’s been red multi coat forever a while but there’s possible undocumented slight variations in paint formula as with any other car paint. Original Model S had “signature red” which was darker. The newest S/X have “ultra red”. Also of course older cars have been subject to years of sun exposure and fading and paint scratches and swirls so it’s not going to pop as much.

The red is very sensitive to weather and light conditions and how clean it is. Overcast/cloudy day and/or dirty car and it looks like a very dull almost maroon-ish red.

In direct bright sunlight on a clean car, it really pops and looks bright metallic red.
