Better late than never… Yes your statement is correct. The refresh model S do have that capability but they reached market at around autumn 2021. Here is also one similar discussion, if you need gen.2 fobs (the one’s with better security, claimed by Tesla) then these need’s to be purchased and programmed by service. It’s actually exchange, your current fobs to their new ones.
This might also be the case that OP describes, the second prt. no that Tesla only sell by themselves.
