Roadster Headlight improvement options?

I'm driving my Roadster as a daily driver and therefore also in Swiss winter...and sometimes it is scary dark as f***!

I find the original Headlamps a challenge and am looking for options to improve them in any way.
Does anyone have informations on what the options are e.g. better bulbs, Xenon, LED...etc. which are legal to fit?
The price doen't matter that much as life is more precious...and I simply do not want to give up driving the Roadster ever.
(even considering eye surgery to improve the situation ;-) )

Any help/info's would be much appriciated.

I don't have direct experience with upgrading Roadster lights (mine has factory HIDs) but I have had good results fitting aftermarket 35W HIDs to halogen projector type lights in several other cars. Am I right in assuming that the halogen Roadster lights are projectors or not?
