Hi Folks,

I have a 2013 Model S with 142,000 miles on it, I bought this vehicle used and the battery was replaced when it had 98000 miles on it. Nov 05, 2023 I received these errors on my tesla. Any idea on what they mean? The vehicle is not under warranty anymore. I had no errors or degradation in performance before this.

I took the vehicle to Tesla Service Center and initially they said it was a quick fix with 12v battery replacement, 2 days after they called me again that the problem is with the full battery pack. I find it hard to believe that the battery went completely dead when it was charing fine and giving me good 200 miles on it.

I want to seek second opinion from experts in this group to see what my options are as Tesla quoted me 16000 to replace the battery.

Hi Peakay,

They ran full diag on it and came back with this conclusion. I never had any issues with battery charging and never faced issue with battery degradation.

Man, that is terrible. I was also hoping my battery would last a good long time as it was replaced about 50k and 5 years ago. Now these stories have me worried, especially as I just bought a new drive unit.

I recommend contacting these folks in San Diego CA. They were helpful to me when I was sorting out the errors on my car:

Hello. Tesla S 2013 (US). The problem is that when charging DC connections up to 50 kW via Chademo, after 10 or 20 minutes the charging disconnects and throws errors BMS_w035, BMS_w151, GTW_018. The car does not run and the 12V error GTW_w174 occurs. However, after some time the system recovered and I was able to drive. The error disappeared, only indicating that the 12V was weak. As it is now winter and cold, I had the impression that the system had disconnected during charging because some element had heated up, which cooled down after some time, and the system resumed after checking. After repeated DC charging and disconnection. I decided to charge with the AC connector. Charging almost succeeded to 80% and disconnected again with the same errors.
The service suggested me to replace the HV battery heater or the charging plate (I have two of them it seems). However, I have the impression that the 12V battery is to blame. Because the AC charging took 4 hours but the 12V has not recovered and is currently dead. I think the weather may have rusted the terminals or something, or the lifetime has expired and shortening is in progress. Could it be the wrong 12V causing AC or DC charging to stop?

@Rolex1973 you might want to start your own thread, but if the battery 12v battery is old you might want to start there. The problem is hv battery or drive unit problems will kill the 12v battery, so it might be unrelated. You could always open a ticket with Tesla and do remote diagnostics, but it’s hit and miss with them.
