My 2017 MX has developed a quiet but annoying ticking sound on the driver's side that is tied to the HVAC system. It seems to be directly tied to the airflow direction controls (up, out, down), not the fan. The noise can be turned off and on by turning off the airflow out of the dash vents in most cases, but turning the airflow back on doesn't always restart the ticking noise. Frequently, putting the HVAC system into manual mode and turning the out control off and on makes the noise go away, but when I put the system back in automatic mode, the noise returns (and the out airflow button turns on).
Anyone else run into this? I'm guessing that there's a motor/servo in the dash that is causing the noise. That motor/servo controls some flap, and the motor/servo is not stopping when it should. Activating the motor/servo stops the noise when it moves to close a flap, but restarts when it opens the flap.
