Trade-in needs an oil change and a state inspection...

Any thoughts if I can get away with a trade-in that has a service interval light on and an expired state inspection?

The state inspection expired during the COVID lockdown and I never got around to doing it and it's not a $40 oil change -- it will run me about $200 at least.

Why not just spend the $200ish to get the oil change and state inspection? It's better to have everything good to go for a trade in otherwise wherever you trade will most likely use it against you in terms of value.

That's what I'm asking -- do you say that based on experience or best guess?

The state inspection doesn't follow the car -- they'd need to get a new one with new plates wherever it ends up.

I'd rather pay a guy $10 to turn off the light than spend $200 on an oil change I won't benefit from.
