Trunk strut disconnected

Hello,
My friend recently manhandled my trunk on my ‘21 3 and now anytime I open or close the trunk the powered strut disconnects at the top. Has anyone had this issue and was able to fix it? I’m going out of town twice in the next 2 weeks so was hoping to fix it myself versus schedule an appointment.

In the picture it’s still attached at the top but using the close feature the top pops off.

Guessing the retainer clip is missing.

Looking closer I saw the top part cracked. The clip is there, so I'm guessing I need a new one. I can't schedule maintenance soon with my schedule, do you think it would be covered? Took delivery June 2021. If not I'd need to buy a new one.
