Sentry Mode is active when there is a red dot in the middle of the icon (similar behavior to the dashcam icon).

You can verify this for yourself by using the Tesla app on your phone to turn Sentry Mode on/off and seeing how each state is represented on the touchscreen icon.

I actually watched 2001 a Space Odyssey in "Cinerama", the IMAX of the day. In fact, HAL 2000 was one alpha character from I.B.M. And yes, they still exist.
