Window Tint and auto-dimming mirrors

Hi All,

I recently tinted (5%) the rear/back windows of my MS75D and since am not seeing the mirrors auto-dim when it's dark and cars are behind me.

I assume this is because the rear window being tinted blocks any sensor from seeing the lights.

Does anyone have a workaround for this?

Which mirrors do you expect to dim, that don't do that ?
I have tinted windows (rear) as well, never seen a problem, in fact - I did not gave this issue a thought before reading this article, and , in northern Norway, there is no sunrise this time of the year, so we are driving a lot on dark roads..

I would expect the side mirrors to dim. All of the mirrors used to dim, but the rear tint acts as a dimmer for the rear view mirror. But the side mirrors can get pretty blinding when people leave their brights on on the freeway.

5%? Isn't that like limo tint? No wonder the sensor isn't picking up lights through the window. That tint is incredibly dark.

the auto dimming sensor is in the rearview mirror, near the top left corner.

i have 35% tint in the rear and sensor is working.

you can probably test it by shinning a light at it?

Try to tint the sensor in front of the rearview mirror... The relative light input/output should theoretically be the same.

I tried tinting the sensor and it did not work.

Then I brought it up to the Service Center and asked if they could increase the sensitivity or if they had a workaround. The guy I talked to said he could fix it.

I pick it up today or tomorrow and will let you know if it's fixed.

@Cfinck I got the car back yesterday but couldn't test until today. I do notice the side mirrors are dimming slightly. But only when someone's lights are really bright.
Not as good as it was before the window tint and probably something I wouldn't pay for as the dimming is only really noticeable if you're looking for it.
I don't have the actual price as it was part of warranty, but they did replace the entire rear view mirror unit and windshield (may be unrelated).
