Wondering if my solar is working right ? production decreased from may through august in the bay area , california

Looks right to me. Remember that the number of solar hours are declining after the summer solstice (by definition). May tends to be a peak production month because you get the mix of cooler weather (panels are more efficient) and exiting rainy season (if you get some) so the panels are cleaner.
 
In general your system are fine and it is going downhill all the way from now to maybe next March. My small system saw 1.2 kW output at 6:30am and 0.2 kW at 7:30pm in May, now it is doing 0.4 kW at 7:30am and 0.1 kW at 6:30pm, so we are getting a lot less usable sunlight. Relax.
