There are few stocks like Tesla, which has attracted admirers and
detractors during its rapid rise. The Palo Alto, Calif., company's
shares are up more than 275% this year; among stocks in the Nasdaq-100
Index, only Netflix Inc. NFLX +0.91% has gained more. Tesla's $15.6
billion market value is roughly the equivalent of 110-year-old
motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson Inc. HOG -0.56%

Tesla's surge has been a financial boon for early adopters, helping
some investors buy homes or the company's $70,000 vehicles.
