Reduction in range - roof box/bike

We are hoping to drive to France later this month. Has anyone got experience driving long distance with a roof box fitted? If so how much range does it sap? Same for (probably) one roof mounted bike although we may forgo that and hire. Thanks

    European trip essentials

Thanks for the feedback - good to know about the lights; interesting re breathalysers although very cheap to buy; any comments on the jack pucks I am thinking of buying?

    European trip essentials

It's been a while since I took a car to Europe - and that wasn't an electric one. I am trying to put together an essentials list to cover the standard stuff and then EV specific. I'd welcome any thoughts on anything omitted. 1 Repair kit. I have 2 tyre plug kits and a compressor. Does the Tesla...

    Third party charging in France

Thanks for the advice - I have ordered Maingau and plugsurfing cards. Does the former only cover ionity chargers or is it more extensive and its just that it gives cheaper rates using ionity?

    Third party charging in France

Oh dear we don't have a month! Do you recall if the plugsurfing card arrived quicker? Is there any option to buy these cards when you arrive in France or indeed any chargers you can use with an App rather than card? Thanks

    Third party charging in France

We are considering a trip to France in the next few weeks. Can I confirm that you need some sort of card to use any third party chargers? It seems that the Chargemap card is recommended - is this because it is an umbrella card that gives access to a number of charging networks? It appears to be...

    European insurance

Yes that's right - I am sure I read that its expensive to upgrade?

    European insurance

It appears that you are automatically covered for third party under a UK policy when driving in the EU at least until the end of this year but is that correct? I am with Direct Line - any ideas on the cost of upgrading to fully comp for a 2/3 week trip to France? Thanks.

    Roadside assistance for Tesla?

I suppose it may have helped to read this first of all! So it appears to be linked to your warranty but that begs the question is it the general warranty (ours has expired now) or the 8 yr battery and motor or both? The spare wheel option could be useful if we had a puncture within 50 miles of...

    Roadside assistance for Tesla?

Can anyone tell me what Tesla Roadside Assistance is? I see a number for it on the car screen but is there any cost involved in using it? Is it a breakdown service? If so what is covered? Is it just valid in the UK or abroad? What is the service like in practise? ie you get a puncture in the UK...

Road Trip - Charging in France & Spain

I see this costs 10 euros - do you know if that is for a year or for life? Do this card offer the most comprehensive cover in Europe? How do you know when you are planning your trip whether a particular charger will work with the card/app? Is it just a case of using the Plugsurfing app and any...

UK For Sale / Wanted / Free [closed for new items]

2017 Facelift MS nearside rear light cluster for sale. Just checking if there is any interest on here? It suffered for a minor amount of condensation in really wet weather but far from noticeable in general. We only replaced it because we managed to do so without charge.

West of Scotland / Outer Hebrides road trip in a Tesla

If you are planning the Outer Hebrides I would be interested in how your research goes. I read recently that the Western Isles council has now decided to charge for charging at the Chargeplace Scotland chargers - not that this is so important. The bigger issue is how easy it is to find a charger...

    M3 taking over :)

I wonder when all these new M3s will mean queuing for supercharging becomes common. Will Tesla be able to keep pace expanding the SCing infrastructure? Our private SCing network is one of their big selling points but the gloss will come off if and when waiting for a bay becomes frequent.

    Fellow car cleaning obsessives...

I am still slightly bemused that it appears that not a single Tesla owner has responded to a message I posted in this thread about eco-friendly car cleaning products maybe about 3 weeks ago. Anyway, in case there is any interest in reducing the amount of c*&p that we are flushing into our water...

Dash Cam Install for Model S

Yes it is connected to the the rectangular black plastic box in the middle of the photo (with the white stickers on) that also has a white and grey wire coming out of it so it is being used for something (to power this). If this is power for whatever this black box is can I tap into somehow with...

Dash Cam Install for Model S

Comstructed in Feb 2017 I think. Its definitely AP2 and MCU1. Yes the connectors on the sides I think are for the microphone(s). It's the (black) plug that you can just about see at the top that I was referring to!

Dash Cam Install for Model S

I am in the UK and have popped open the mesh grille to find a different set up - there is an rectangular black box in the middle which appears to have a 4 pin power plug going into it. I don't see any spare power plug. Hopefully the photo makes clear what I am saying. Is there any way to rig up...

    Dashcam recommendations for AP2 car

Thanks - I have just had a look and the Nextbase 522GW seems to be the best reviewed/best value for money. Looking further I found this link showing how to wire a Blackvue Dashcam to the power socket hidden in the little microphone grill on the roof of the MS - BlackVue DR750S-2CH installation...

    Dashcam recommendations for AP2 car

In just over 2 months of ownership we have now had 3 muppets hit our car while it was parked. The most recent was this morning and thankfully has only resulted in some fairly mild scuffing but of course they have just b*&*()£ed off without leaving a note. As I understand it our MS with its AP2...

    Brexit

I wouldn't bet against it. The way the government is mishandling the current crisis and now with this debacle over Mr Cummings - Labour suddenly has credibility now as well. No way will they get their great trade deal this year: no matter the protestations there will be delay and that delay will...

    Brexit

"Not sure"! Probably £100 billion lost to the economy even before Covid and £100s of billions to follow due to our inevitable loss of favourable trading terms and general diminishment as a country in global terms. If I get a flat tire in UK what’s my options?

What is the best option to buy a puck for a MS (and will one do for the typical one tyre puncture scenario)? Which of the numerous plug kits that can be bought is best? What is this "Tesla Roadside button on the roof" - is that a M3 feature? Does Tesla Roadside assistance come with every car...

Buying advice - New 3 or Used S

I don't think you will get free SCing on the S AND AP2.5. I spent months on Autotrader before finding and buying an early 2017 that has AP2 and free SCing (just). We haven't used SCers much given the lockdown but when you do it doesn't generate a feeling of smugness. Perhaps work out what you...

Autopilot 2020 , What is actually included ?

Yes def AP2 and facelift. When I was talking about no lanechange what I meant was that when you switch the AP on say on a dual carriageway and check its safe to overtake and then indicate to change lane it doesn't do the lane change for you. I think that is maybe different to the NAV on AP...

Autopilot 2020 , What is actually included ?

Thanks - this sounds plausible and may be the explanation. It's just weird that what we have in terms of functionality appears to be between what came with EAP and now comes with standard AP.
  38. M

Autopilot 2020 , What is actually included ?

That's the puzzle you see - it doesn't do automatic lane change when you are driving in AP (which I think comes with EAP?) and under options it doesn't say EAP. What it says is "No battery performance" (what does this mean incidentally?) and $APPC. A quick google search on $APPC leaves me none...

Autopilot 2020 , What is actually included ?

A bit delayed in replying but Summon does work or at least I can move the car slowly back and forwards slowly using the "summon" option on my phone app when I am standing close by the car - I assume that this is what standard Summon does? In addition, it looks like we have autopark - my partner...

    Brexit

Apologies, I had taken you for a frothing at the mouth leave voter. Why? They will still be part of a massive trading bloc with a generally progressive agenda. I agree that the oil price isn't helping Scotland's own independence cause. It will, however, rebound. The mood for independence up...

If I get a flat tire in UK what’s my options?

I am still a little unclear on why/how this blue wedge works/is needed? You mentioned the AA chap inflated the tyre before you rolled the car back onto the wedge and then the car could be jacked. Presumably it was inflated while the tyre was still punctured? If so, I assume that this must have...

If I get a flat tire in UK what’s my options?

Good point I was forgetting about the clearance issue. I only mentioned the bottle jack as I happen to have one. Why then wouldn't a conventional car jack work - just like the one you have purchased with the space saver wheel kit - assuming it can cope with the load? I have a MS btw but I don't...

If I get a flat tire in UK what’s my options?

Stupid question but I take it that Tesla don't supply a jack with their cars? So if you want to do a diy tyre plug you would need to carry your own jack and plug kit and some way to inflate? I have a small 5 ton bottle jack - would that suffice? Where is the best place to source the jack pads...

    French Camp Sites and Charging

Silly rules - self isolate for 14 days on arrival in quarantine......just as that is finished - oh it's time to go home! Brexit

I'm afraid this is fantasy land....it's nothing to do with Ireland's expectations. This is the power of a single massive trading bloc ie the EU against a single enfeebled country ie the UK. It's only going to end one way and that's not in favour of the UK. The EU have no need or indeed reason to...

    Solar installation feasible?

    Considering getting a Powerwall

Subject to still having funding available at the end of this crisis we have plans to build a passive house next year with a pretty large PV array - probably about 12-14kw coupled with a powerwall. One thing that I cant really find info on and that is how we coordinate this with our DNO? We are...
