Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

I'd suggest you get a sound meter and see for yourself that 3dB is no where near a doubling in loudness. This is the reason that dB is never quoted with a decimal point.

Model 3 Inventory - Does Anything Look Off?

Congrats...that Black Obsidian was probably an earlier build since that color hasn't been available for awhile.

    Vampire Drain/Loss Tracking

I don't think there is cabin heating per se going on but rather heat soak from the battery. Whether that battery heat from driving lasts for hours and warms the cabin or if the pump is cycling warm water through it when parked I don't know.

    Vampire Drain/Loss Tracking

Looking at the interior temperature when my car is parked overnight, I'm always struck by the fact that it seems warmer than I would expect (not charging). Granted I never had an interior temperature gauge in my ICE vehicles but I'm wondering if there is battery warming/conditioning going on...

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

Actually it IS true. What you are talking about is actual SPL (which indeed is logarithmic) and not perceived loudness. You can google these terms and read about it. You will find that 1dB is considered imperceptible change and 3dB is barely perceptible change.

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

Hmm, this wasn't my experience. I had previously done a sound meter test with seats down and surprisingly there was no difference. Although in that test I did have a moving blanket lining the trunk along with my bike and some gear. So I decided to replicate the test today with seats down and...

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

You may be right. Some of the reading i've done on noise reduction seems to indicate that in general a combination of material such as mass loaded vinyl and foam provides the best solution. However, the threads I have read about Model 3 in particular on installation of mass loaded vinyl didn't...

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

There are some threads where people have put Dynamat in the wheel wells and they didn't seem to indicate there was much change in the noise. Not sure how Dynamat compares to the material in this video though.

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

I bought the front and the back. I didn't notice any difference in the dB measurements that I made with the sunshades installed. However, subjectively the sound seems a bit less sharp in some way. The front fits fine but not that impressed with the rear. It sags a bit, has some wrinkles, and...

    Performance suspension settle?

Tesla advertises that the performance package is 10mm lower. Mine doesn't look any lower though. Would be interesting to check part numbers of the springs.

How to top off the batter after some vampire drain

Don't charge to 90% if you aren't going to drive for a couple of days. Battery is happier sitting at a lower SOC. Then charge up before you're going to go somewhere.

Hoping to see an improvement. Just watched the video and good to see the doors seem to close fine although you do close them quite firmly. They sound very solid.

Tesla Model 3 Performance value at CarMax - appraisal lower than expected!

They have quite a few on their lot last I checked...maybe too many. They adjust their offers according to what inventory they need. They pay more than wholesale so they are stuck with what they buy.

Tesla Model 3 Performance value at CarMax - appraisal lower than expected!

so 10k in new car depreciation and 10k for the government incentives that a used buyer won't get (in Calif) and a few thousand profit for the dealer and you have your price.

    Waking up?

The app communicates with the car via LTE...and must go through Tesla's servers so anyone's guess where the delay is. May not be a delay in waking up just a delay in making the connection.

just left this feedback to Tesla

Thanks for posting the details of the fix. Too many people just post about the problem and some vague solution such as tech lubricated trunk mechanism, which of course isn't of much use to those of us that would rather tackle a simple fix than take the car in.

    Cquartz leather protectant, white interior

I don't understand how a ceramic coating can possibly work on something like a seat. Supposedly the coating when used on a car's paint forms a hard glass like finish. In fact they caution you to throw away microfiber towels used in the process because of shards of quartz in the towel. I'm...

Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC) should be standard free of cost - Let's vote and make Elon Hear

Most cars, but not Tesla. If you have TACC you don't have normal CC.

Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC) should be standard free of cost - Let's vote and make Elon Hear

Sure would be nice to have it for free, but frankly I still want the option to use the old 'dumb' cruise control which works much better on secondary roads where TACC is too timid. I was happy when my EAP trial ended so I could get the old cruise control back.

Annoying rattle from rear of Tesla resolved.

I recall reading a fix for this on one of the Tesla forums. As I recall it was very involved. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks for the heads up on the Griot's deal at Pep Boys...it's 20% off. Is one pad enough to do the whole car? Do you need to stop and clean it a few times? Or use multiple pads? Also, does the Griot's machine come with a pad?

Water Pooling in Frunk After Automated Touchless Car Wash

Might want to take a close look at the rubber seal around the Frunk, could just be out of place or something. Either that or bad seal or Frunk is not adjusted properly. If you've done the Frunk strut mod, now would be the time to swap back to stock struts ;-)

Vendor Tesla Model 3 | DIY Ceramic Coating

Lots of good info here. I'd like some opinions on my plans. I have a white model 3 which is almost new. I've examined the finish closely with an LED light and I don't see any scratches or swirls at all. Guess I won the paint lottery. But I plan to ceramic coat and don't want to skimp on...

That looks like dB Meter which is what I use as well. It has a download function so you can download a CSV with readings every second over several minutes. The base app is free and there is a Pro option you can buy to gain more features. Can anyone explain the chart to me? Looks like various...

    Any Model 3 Owner Cyclists?

Mountain biker here. I put the bike inside the car with front wheel off. Best way to transport in my opinion. Of course if you need to transport 2 you have to get a rack. I would never use one of those trunk mounted racks, especially for e-bikes...hassle to put on, risk of damage to car, no...

    Wifi... the saga continues

Well, there is no doubt the wifi doesn't remain connected, so why would the software bother shutting on and off if it weren't for energy savings? Probably doesn't explain the OPs issues though, although I will say that when I get in the car the display shows LTE and not wifi like it does when I...
  39. M

    Wifi... the saga continues

Oldschool above is correct. Model 3 is not like your phone or other devices that lock onto and stay on wifi 24/7. The computer wakes up and connects when it needs to otherwise it is on LTE. If the wifi radio remained on 24/7 people would be whining about phantom drain.

Left foot braking, technical positioning question

So I'm curious about the 2 pedal warning beeps. Will the electronics allow you to apply the brakes while still on the throttle? Some cars will not. It's definitely a worthy high performance driving technique and takes a while to build up the necessary finesse in the left foot so if you don't...

    Audiophiles w/ Model 3's

Ah ok, I see what you are talking about now. Interesting and glad to see that. So it's attached to the carpet and not to the floor? I guess that's why I thought the model 3 was bare as when I see it stripped I didn't see the backside of the carpet.
  44. M

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

@M3 2018, I agree discouraging report on door seals. The original impression I had from OP was that they made a significant difference, but I may have been drawing false conclusions from the dB's reported as those may be at slower speed than my tests.
  45. M

    Audiophiles w/ Model 3's

I've been using the same app for my testing. I do my testing at 74 mph on a concrete highway and at stock was at 73.9 dB. With the RPM wind strip I'm at 72.3. Is your number stock? I download the data and average it over a two mile segment.
  46. M

    Audiophiles w/ Model 3's

Oh I assumed those stock strips were mass loaded vinyl to stop resonance. Is it more like foam? It doesn't seem to me that spot placing foam would do any good.

    Audiophiles w/ Model 3's

Nice job on the shock towers....yours is the first I've seen dynamatted. Did you do any sound testing on it? Regarding a comment about the Model 3 coming fairly well insulated, I'm not so sure...the rear trunk area is pretty much bare metal under the wafer thin carpet. I saw a youtube of a...

    Wind noise seems somewhat obtrusive

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

@M3 2018 good luck with Tesla....what repairs are they actually doing, do you know? I've been following noise reduction threads and it seems to me that Noico in the trunk and doors has minimal impact. The door seals as reported by the OP seem to be the best option followed by the RPM wind...
