Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

There is a new firmware update for Ownice 2.8.14 I reached out to Ownice on AliExpress regarding company's dedicated website/forum for updates, troubleshooting, and other relevant info. In return, they send me a link to the new release: 2.8.14 - Google Drive I wonder if anyone tried the update...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

There are two Wi-Fi chips inside Ownice unit. One to handle CarPlay, and the other one is dedicated to vehicle connection to the Internet via Hotspot. So, in essence, there are two types of bridge networking going on. T2C works similarly except with only one Wi-Fi chip inside.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

For the vehicle to have access to the Internet, one must enable Hotspot. I have a shortcut that turns the Hotspot on when I connect to the car via Bluetooth, and automation that turns Hotspot off when CarPlay is not used.

Using an advanced filesystem (Linux ext4) for both Teslacam and music files: The Definitive Guide

Yes, the partitions will be erased if you do it in the Tesla. You will end up with a single partition for TeslaCam videos. To make any changes to the existing drive, move the media storage to PC, Mac or Linux.

Yes, it does resume playing when you park the car and come back to it after a while.

Using an advanced filesystem (Linux ext4) for both Teslacam and music files: The Definitive Guide

Excellent write-up. For those who prefer a GUI interface, I would recommend using gparted application. For those who don't have access to a Linux machine, I would recommend gparted Live USB/CD.

Coast to Coast Trip in May 2023

Thank you for your recommendation related to TeslaFi. I am currently using Tessie which generated the map and stats for me. I will take another look at comparing TeslaFi and Tessie when my sub expires at the end of the year. Another related comment is that the I-40 segments in Eastern...

You are right, I meant I-40. The other useful metric is the cost per mile: $.12.

    Western US Road Trip - 2017 Model X 75D

Thanks for sharing, The issues you encountered, specifically #1 and #2, have been driving me crazy. I hope Tesla would change the algorithms to deal with PBs and right-lane merging really soon.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

I concur on your assessment of network protocols involved in making T2C and Ownice operational. The issue we are having has to do with a lack of readily available knowledge in the user communities, such as public forums. The forums would enable users to communicate their issues/suggestions to...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

What you are looking for is in the hands of TSLA. Hacking issues go away If TSLA ever decides to support CarPlay and Android Auto natively - I would not put my money on it. Running Hotspot with Ownice is optional.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

There are two connections: 1. Wi-Fi to the box which in turn Tesla connects with to enable CarPlay or AA. All data is provided by your phone (mobile data). 2. Personal Hotspot enables your Tesla to talk to the Internet. The setting can be found by clicking blue Tesla icon, where you have to...

You need to enable Personal Hotspot feature to have your car get internet data. I am using it for Tessie. BTW, the item you got is a carbon copy of Ownice Tbox.

Replacing USB stick w/ SSD issue

I replaced the Tesla provided memory stick with a Samsung T7 SSD. The reason for that was two-fold: 1. Have more space for Dashcam and Sentry videos 2. Copy my collection of FLAC encoded music albums. All formatting, creation of directories, and copying files was done on my desktop computer. I...

I updated my Ownice device away from the car. Once the update was completed, I clicked on "Wi-Fi Settings", changed the language to English. and set both bands to "Auto". I have been using Ownice T3 unit and lI prefer it over CarliniKit T2C. Not only I don't have to run Personal Hotspot, but it is al lot more stable compared to two different CarliniKit units that I eventually returned.. I have basic AP, 2023.12.9

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

I have been reading your posts and comments and I don't really understand what you are trying to do with Premium Connectivity. Once you got the CarPlay working, the only two remaining benefits of having Premium Connectivity are: 1. Real Time Sentry Monitoring 2. High Quality Audio Lastly, I...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Tesla can only utilize only one connection at a time: either LTE or Wi-Fi. In order for your Tesla to be connected to the Internet, when using T3 for CarPlay, you would need to enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone.

    Alarm.com, MyQ and homelink.

Sorry, I am not familiar with alarm.com. Try creating Siri shortcut or maybe LiveKey can interface with alarm.com
  25. charlesoris

    Alarm.com, MyQ and homelink.

MyQ is an app, like Spotify in Tesla. You have to pay for subscription once the trial is over. Use the FOB for MyQ or automate opening/closing using LiveKey app on iPhone (my preferred solution).

@EMEV and @sbtz : Thank you for your responses. Unfortunately, I had either read and tried solutions provided by the vendor, or contacted other users with the same problem without success. At this point, I am debating whether to keep it and use iPhone Hotspot or return the product to Amazon...

Has any tried a different USB-C cable with their unit? Mine will not power on with any of my longer cables. I tested cables with my phone prior to experimenting them with my T2C unit. It seems as if only the cable provided works.

The Wi-Fi in your car needs to remain connected to some Wi-Fi network for it to stay up. Mine is connected to T2C at all times when I am not at home/work. It will disconnect completely if the car falls asleep.

There are a couple of advantages of using the SIM T2C if you have unlimited or high limit cap of SIM Hotspot data: 1. If you don't have Premium Connectivity, you can play YouTube or Netflix while charging 2. Your phone doesn't get warm/hot by turning on Hotspot on it. 3. You can walk away while...

US Superchargers open to CCS vehicles

IMHO, Tesla could have redesigned stalls for existing SuperCharger locations to prevent CCS vehicles taking two stalls. The new SuperChargers should have two clearly marked areas: one for Tesla only, and the other one for Tesla/CCS vehicles. If not, we are going to face long waiting lines...

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

I am not sure what you are trying to relay. The T2C used to support SIM cards only, but with the latest update, CARLINKIT added the iPhone Hotspot option. Users may only use either SIM or Hotspot at a time.

Indeed, the audio is transmitted directly to Tesla infotainment. I turned off Bluetooth and the audio went silent.
  43. charlesoris

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

It is my understanding that T2C does not relay any music/audio over Bluetooth - it is a direct link from the phone to the car - but I could be wrong. Even with this limitation, I find T2C to be easy and reliable to use with my iPhone Hotspot. I am monitoring usage as I have 3GB of Hotspot data...

È stato un viaggio fantastico! Grazie per aver condiviso. I haven't been back to Italy in over forty years - I would not mind making this trip from Rome to Morrocco in a rental Tesla if possible.
