I just received PTO on my 2 powerwall and 8.16 kW pv purchased thru Tesla, I now of course want to add one more power wall and possibly 4 additional panels ( I know should have done it all at once but ,,, what are you gonna do ). So my question is what is inspection / PTO process as far as using...

gen 2 hpwc easy to "hard set" max current just a lil potentiometer (?) marked with letters if i recall .. they correspond to max amps in manual i assume gen 3 similar or if not get a gen 2 / inspector can even put a lil security sticker on edge cover of HPWC if they are really worried about...

so to be clear .. this is behavior while the OP's utility power was out correct ? (i know OP stated power out everywhere.. does that include their home?) otherwise system would send excess pv gen to grid and continue to keep powerwalls topped off ? so if "off grid" this is similar issue to...

@jjrandorin seems you are on sce .. not sure if simple short answer to this but if i anticipate using zero from grid (based on my pre-PTO extensive off grid "testing" i am using zero from grid) if this continues thru summer would the tou 5-9 because of credits etc be much better vs the tou-D...

@SMAIset pretty much summarizes our use of solar / powerwalls / one ev model 3 .. if i watch / tweak when we charge ev / rate of charge we never use any grid power ..so seems plan where zero net (or less ) net usage would benefit .. if you don't want to be hassled with watching when / how charge...

definitely "oversize" .. i went conservative and i'm already going to be ordering another powerwall and more panels moment PTO approved .. much more economical to get all 1st time or "oversize" .. not to mention hassle going thru inspection / another PTO (i assume ?) / possible more strict...

not trying to dog pile on the OP .. but i agree poor comparison should we also compare lifespan of my cell phone battery if it were tesla branded ? this has always been and will always be a part of the physics of batteries .. just most people unaware .. its also 2nd law of thermodynamics :p

my guess is that without solar tesla anticipates more cycling per year (i know thats a weak obvious answer) rational for that .. i would say for example people shifting tou without solar would cycle more? but that would not always be case vs solar . i guess answer is i don't know .. i'm sure...

I believe as pointed out earlier in thread warranty based on cycles only applies to batteries not charged by solar .. which are the minority from what I've read. So strictly 70% capacity at 10 year mark unless i skimmed thread too fast and neighbor does not have solar .. then thats on me

i would say yes .. since car is adjusting charge level i would test it for you but my highest power outlet outside of my HPWC is a 20amp 110v and not much for model 3 to throttle back there :p

i wonder among those who called and paid over phone with cc / needing supervisor approval etc .. if tesla account ever shows paid online... or will the make final payment button always show ? :p

as @jjrandorin said its all the car's doing ...including adjusting current .. i think ppl are confused on what gen 3 can actually currently do vs gen 2 connector at this time .. in future maybe diff story

i can only speak to model 3 / when charging while i am off grid .. i know you were asking on other models i have tesla series 2 wall connector first of all it worked 1st time / nothing needed on my part as far as set up it lowers and raises charging current to car based on house demand / amount...

i can only speak to "deep scratches" .. i had what looked like deep scratches on many of my panels after install and was concerned .. i went up and rubbed a few w/ damp paper towel . were not actually deep just appeared from ground. first rain they were all gone. My experience of course yours...

nor cal passed inspection late dec '20 (sorry do not recall exact) still no pto from SCE .. due to tesla slow to submit / and one time missing info on document .. impression is SCE relatively fast with processing same story . quality of install / installation team great .. customer service not...

have to agree with @Vines his electrical knowledge esp in area of solar / home battery backup I'm sure is greater than mine but based on what I know of gen 2 vs gen 3 connector I see no way this upgrade would solve this problem. In fact at this time I know of no advantage of gen 3 over gen 2...

soft start was installed day of install for me .. it never appeared anywhere in plans or any paperwork .. i just asked electrician about it and he said oh yes we have a soft start .. it is required for your setup ..(typical lack of communication within tesla)

i have pretty much same but with 8k solar .. 2 pw ac soft start model 3 .. no issues / no "tripping" power walls when testing AC in winter .. just have to be reasonable when you charge car .. if tesla connector will adjust from up to 44amps down to 36amps (in my case ) based on amount / and pv...

thank you... that was one of the plausible explanations I was thinking .. if this were the case though and powerwalls hit "0%" would they come back online once they started getting some pv energy or would they have needed to be reset with switch such as i believe is case when overloaded ?

was beginning another off grid pre-PTO test powerwalls started at about 28% .. so main breaker off simulate power out / turned on breaker to solar / turn on pv converter all night before .. batteries should have easily got me till dawn when i could produce from pv .. so just at sunrise power...

I think the whole “true” 0% or 100% is issue whether it is a car or powerwall of battery management (powerwall or car electronics ) in that case would display 0% or 100% to user when in actuality has some reserve left for self protection or some capacity left for balancing etc. This I am seeing...

Not sure of correct name for it but the thin black box connected to your router ? Yea it showed both red indicators for a day no ethernet and no signal Suddenly started showing it had ethernet for no apparent reason but It has never shown a signal

Super basic question. I was not home for most of install. How do I get my solar powerwall system to show up on Tesla app? (I have a model 3 on app already and when I swipe over still just shows ad for solar etc) I know the installer had my gf enter our WiFi password on his tablet and I do see...

So when you turn on inverter you only get flashing green led not green and blue led both flashing ? If this is case I just read indicates ‘power optimizers not paired” from solar edge website My knowledge of all this is VERY limited so I’m sure others on here can be more help / clarify further
