Headrest bubbling and other issues, theories and testing

As I'm just mentally tallying things up...may I ask if you rest your head against the headrest for 30+ minutes at a time like for a longer commute? My running theory is a constant warmth is causing the defect, not chemicals. A lot of drivers actually do not touch the headrest with their heads -...

Question for those of you using hotspots in your car.

Your response is not an answer to the question. Our cars turn OFF wifi when the car is put into drive, thus requiring manual activation of wifi again, so we can use our hotspots while driving. To the OP - I use T-Mobile One (they too change their offerings like Tesla...randomly and frequently)...

    Tire dust?

This is interesting. Certainly haven't experienced this on my Model 3. As a hobbyist detailer, I inspect/clean wheel arches, and there's not been any build up like that.

    Entertainment system baffles me

If you have an issue reading the manual in the car, you can use a phone or computer to view the PDF manual: https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/files/model_3_owners_manual_north_america_en.pdf As far as my experience is, Tesla does update this manual to reflect changes in software for the car...

    Phantom Braking

This started happening more with recent updates. It was mostly gone for quite a few versions of the software. I haven't driven enough recently after getting 12.11 to see if it's gone. I know 12.16 is rolling out now...here's to hoping the arguably dangerous behavior, has been resolved.

Headrest bubbling and other issues, theories and testing

I haven't had luck with Tesla addressing mine but perhaps it's not bad enough yet. +1 to warranty running out.

TeslaCam issues since dashcam viewer update

I don't play with the viewer too much so it may not be a new change, but I noticed since since 12.5 and now I'm on 12.6, the viewer bundles videos together by location...so there's not a crap ton of clips to click through...I can just use the slider to scrub through 10+ minutes of footage...

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Not sure what you may have settled with... Yes to Eibach springs for a nicer look and drive. Stock wheels are 20x8.5 et.35; if you don't want to look less aggressive, you'll aim for a wheel with that size and offset, or use a 5mm spacer to enhance the look, or find wheels with an et. between...

My battery results from Aggressive Mountain Driving

I've done a few backroads and it really depends on the speed and elevation changes. I haven't actually experienced too much loss in general compared to driving on track because it's the really long sections where you go flat out that blows through the battery the quickest. My Wh/mi for most...

    "Slipping" on regen

If you can reliably replicate this and have checked your tires, then it's worth a service request in case there's any mounts or motor components going bad. I only feel slip in the rear if coming to stop over painted "STOP" signage on a downhill - I live in SF.

    Rear deck cutout

Is this basically what you're looking for? Obviously covers more than just the cutout... https://www.amazon.com/BASENOR-Deadening-Soundproof-Protective-Insulation/dp/B081PXTLNZ Pretty neat discoveries though. My July 2019 has the solid rear-deck but the interior trim piece that's in the cabin...

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Looks great - been a fan of the height from Eibach springs and a fan of the wheel design too. Since you stuck with the same P3D wheel and tire sizes and brand, have you noticed any differences in efficiency - poisitive/negative? Totally understand if you don't keep track, it's just a curiosity...

No I don't believe they are the supplier - but I don't have the official intel. If they are, then T-Sportline is making a decent profit.

Model 3 window trim 'damage' from 'car wash' or high PH...

Sadly it's expensive since those trim pieces, unlike the rest of the chrome pieces, are actually part of the small quarter glass as one entire assembly. Also means if you tinted that little piece you'll need to re-tint it. I've used some pretty darn aggressive chemicals on my car such as...

Extended free Supercharging due to Covid-19?

Time to work in your Tesla. I think you could work in the car some 18 hours with climate on and entertainment features before needing to charge it up...but yeah not ideal.

Model 3 Black Screen when Unlocked caused by T5 SSD?!?!

July 2019 P3D w/T5 1TB SSD for 4 months... Up until the 2020.8 through 2020.12 updates, I was experiencing an issue where every other time I'd get into my car on short errands - meaning the car remained awake with Sentry active - the system would reboot almost instantly when I opened my door...

    Additional dash cam?

If it's a single cam, and you've done installs before, you'll get it done in 30 minutes or less.

    Additional dash cam?

Double edged sword but if you're never in the "wrong", then the additional data will help you.
  20. gcmak

    Additional dash cam?

It's a good idea. TeslaCam is mostly reliable, however, in a more severe incident, such as one that involves airbag deployment, we've seen time and time again that the final file is corrupt. An external cam that is not tied to core car systems won't suffer from that issue, specifically.

Touchless carwash is safe right? Flooding! (sorry it's wordy)

Do you have access to a hose or a gallon container of water? Mine was easy to replicate by using a garden hose or pouring water down the passenger window and opening the door after a minute. If it drains properly then there shouldn't be any water retention. If the seals are a bit wonky...

Touchless carwash is safe right? Flooding! (sorry it's wordy)

Regarding the splash of water from your rear passenger door. Can you look at the underside of the door and check the seal and compare with your other rear passenger door? I had the same issue after rain or a home wash. It turned out the seal was not properly installed - it's adhesive in that...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Having driven a few Model S, I like that car's option to toggle between estimated range and rated range. Still not sure why Tesla has not enabled that for Model 3. The Estimated range was much more accurate.

    Trunk Security

Unlike most sedans, Tesla implements the seat-back release mechanism on the inside of the vehicle and right next to the small window. Other sedans have it either near the middle of the rear seats or only in the trunk. As you may have read about SUV/Hatchbacks (like the VW Golf), they have the...

How Often Do You Wash Your Car?

My car is parked outside somewhat near the ocean and often in salty/sticky fog. I drive an average of 400 miles/week (before CV19). I tend to wash the car twice a month - weather permitting - and after a day it pretty much goes back to a sticky icky mess, but I still do it. I can wash and dry...

Pirelli Cintuarto P7 All Season Plus 2 — anyone try these?

My leased 2016 Audi A3 2.0T Quattro had these from the factory. They're actually not a bad tire - in the context of an All-Season tire. I found road noise to be fairly stable as they wore, they handled on the audi pretty well on some of my favorite backroads, and offered confident feel during...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

What I have experienced is seasonality, and I live in San Francisco where we don't have really more than 2 seasons. My car has bounced between 295 and 312mi at 100%. It really depends on ambient temps and the [assumed] changing algorithms used by Tesla. It's taken many months for me to adopt the...

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Since you're a highway driver like I am, having aerodynamic wheels and not going wider than factory tires are going to make the biggest difference for you. The Performance inverter/motor are not the same as your AWD LR either. The test you could perform is putting on your 20" OE wheels/tires...

    Model 3 headrests too hard?

Yep its a firm one and like some folks (myself included), you may begin to have neck/upper back pains. The vegan leather may also separate from the padding on the headrest if used frequently. It's not a bad idea to invest in a sort of neck cushion.

    Adjusting rear coilovers ride height

+1 to the others who responded saying they do not need to unbolt the rear to adjust. Just did this yesterday to raise the height of the car. Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

The Titan7s are light by a lot compared to Tesla's 20" (non-track pack), and are one of the forged wheels which more reasonably priced. Unfortunately some (not all) of the weight was regained in the tire I picked (but also because of the staggered fitment). Efficiency at highway speeds is also...

    Lowering the Model 3

If you had to pick between the two, I'd say go Mild, unless you have a pretty flat and smooth route regularly and don't carry passengers/cargo. Your car will be even lower when it's loaded up. For better or worse, your camber won't be significantly impacted - at least not in the front - so I...

    TPMS

Your F150 may use the wheel speed sensor method of TPMS.
