CCS - buy now or wait?

We had one where our A2Z was pretty snug…like hard to get apart but not crazy hard. The other two were snug but came apart without too much hassle.

CCS - buy now or wait?

Yep. We bought an A2Z after missing the harumio OEM by a couple days. We have a road trip coming up that won’t be possible without an adapter so we rolled the dice on the A2Z. Good solid (read heavy) build. Solid click and lock onto the CCS handle. A little snug when removing but I need the...

    CCS Adapter for North America

    What is ip55 and ip44
  4. W

    CCS Adapter - ?

This was our test session at a 50 KW Flo station with the A2Z adapter. We don’t have higher speed DC fast chargers in our little town. Maybe next week. Anyway. Screenshot from the FLO app.

    CCS Adapter - ?

You’ll want to take it easy anyway. Short wheelbase combo and tires that are rated for 65 mph for 8 minutes. Just sayin.

    CCS Adapter - ?

Cool. I will try that this afternoon.
  7. W

    CCS Adapter - ?

Yes. We actually use plugshare but yah ChargePoint works as well. It would be nice if they were integrated into tesla navigation. First world problems. :).
  8. W

    CCS Adapter - ?

I wish the CCS/Chademo sites would show up on the display.
  9. W

    Western Canada Superchargers

Yah. We have both the CCS and Chademo adapter. Did a comparison test at around 72 percent. Both were around 37kw if I remember correctly. They do eventually climb in the mid or even high 40 ‘s though. Such a huge size difference between the two adapters. Wow.
  10. W

    CCS Adapter - ?

Nope. For us it’s a complete no go. Dead stop without a CCS adapter or Chademo adapter. Unless we just want to not go to those areas…which is not an option. Everybody has different situations.
  11. W

    CCS Adapter - ?

Well, I guess I (and anyone who travels on Vancouver island or the kootenays) is the exception. We leave on another camping trip up island with our car trailer combo. That would be a no go without either our Chademo or CCS adapter. To each his own. Cheers.

"New" Sources of Tesla 'OEM,' Tesla-like, and/or Third-Party CCS1 Adapters

I think I just figured out what is happening. What your saying is Harumio is sourcing a different adapter. Not the OEM Tesla. Is that correct?
  13. W

"New" Sources of Tesla 'OEM,' Tesla-like, and/or Third-Party CCS1 Adapters

Yep. And A2Z definitely answers their phone, and they call you back. And they communicate in French and English.

"New" Sources of Tesla 'OEM,' Tesla-like, and/or Third-Party CCS1 Adapters

It may be just me but I don’t think the A2Z looks anything like the Harumio version. Or maybe I’m looking at the wrong adapter. I don’t have a good picture of our A2Z handy (I’ll get one tomorrow) but it is a different shape….I think. This is the only close up I have on the phone.
  15. W

"New" Sources of Tesla 'OEM,' Tesla-like, and/or Third-Party CCS1 Adapters

Agreed. We have a trip coming up where we need one so we took a chance and bought the A2Z unit. Works good. No regrets. But I can’t figure out why Tesla is not selling in North America. Jmho.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

No. The SETEC CCS adapter you are using has active electronics because it has to translate to Chademo. The Tesla CCS adapter (and other knockoffs) are just pass thru devices. No electronics.
  17. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yep. And the knockoffs are also just pass thru devices other than overheat disconnect device.
  18. W

    CCS Adapter - ?

    Good info. Thanks.
  19. W

    CCS Adapter - ?

Maybe. Not sure. But I can tell you with our A2Z knockoff the adaptor and CCS handle don’t come apart easy. It clicks in and I’m pretty sure anyone who is watching me pull it apart after charging thinks I am seriously constipated if they are looking at my facial expressions. And as long as it...
  20. W

    CCS Adapter - ?

Definitely looks like the OEM. Including the pin thingy which the knockoffs like the one we have don’t have. It’s also double the money though. Interesting.

Nice. Will be using that site on our run to Vancouver island in 3 weeks.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I wonder if those will be the new V4’s that will supposedly also be open to non teslas? (In the US at least). Is that deal done?
  23. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I’m sure there is not much money to be made in selling things like CCS adapters, but from what I can tell, in the last month there are about 3 new companies selling after market CCS adapters to the North American market out there. Seems to me tesla could have made a few bucks there. And this is...

    CCS Adapter - ?

We used in on our last road trip up the valley but we only used on a couple of 50 kw Flo stations. 47 or 48 kw on those at peak. There are some 100 kw and higher rate machines on our route but we are towing our travel trailer so access is harder. 2022 model Y. It’s always iffy dealing with...

    CCS Adapter - ?

We got our A2Z a few days ago just in time for our road trip. We didn’t have it a day before the A2Z guys were reaching out to us to make sure all was going well and check to see if we had any questions. Wow. Great Canadian service. Anyway. It’s a heavy sucker, like in a pinch heavy enough to...

DIY Trailer Harness for Model Y

Not sure what controller you are using but here is the colour code match up for Tekonsha products.
  28. W

    Western Canada Superchargers

It would be cool if someone could put a couple of those 25 kw single phase units there though. BC hydro puts those in places that have limited three phase power. Twice as fast a a Tesla destination charger.

Yep. We actually camped there overnight. Great hosts. Nice overnight spot. Good breakfast sandwiches etc.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The idea of level 4 before the end of the year is funny. We have three intersections in our small town that Jarvis (our model Y) gets wrong 100 percent of the time. Always in the wrong lane and will break the law and kill me if I let him every single time. We report it every day every time he...

Yep. Common during air conditions season.
  33. W

    Tesla 14-50, at the campground...ack

Yah if you are on a 50 amp receptacle it will be between 224 to 240 volts…ish.
  34. W

    Tesla 14-50, at the campground...ack

This is what you can expect. Beware though. You can see in my pic that the voltage is 109 volts. If it stays like that for long it will assume there is a problem and drop the current to 18 amps. Or even 12 amps if the voltage drops too much. Don’t worry, the car will send you a message that...
  35. W

    Tesla 14-50, at the campground...ack

Not really sure but I’ll guess at 220 ish kilometres. The superchargers are closer than that so it never comes up.
  36. W

    Tesla 14-50, at the campground...ack

We love it and we travel a lot in it. It is a T@B 400 non Boondock. (Boondock is too high).
  37. W

    Tesla 14-50, at the campground...ack

The TT30 tells the charge cable (EVSE) that it is a 30 amp outlet and that 24 amps can be drawn. If you just use a hardware store converter the EVSE just sees 120 volts and assumes only 15 amps is available and limits to 12 amps. Using the TT30 adapter from EVSE adapters doubles you charging speed.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Interesting. Do they have a list of battery prices anywhere. What would it cost for say a 9 year old Tesla S out of warranty?
  40. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Informative. Two more questions. How often does this happen. Is there an avenue for 3rd party repairs after the warranty is out or will it always be an expensive battery replacement?
  41. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Did not know that. Can the pack not be removed and the cell replaced?

What does this mean. Improved lane position error by 5% and lane recall by 12% with a [obscured] We have three intersections in town where it get in the wrong lane 100 percent of the time.
  43. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thanks for that perspective. Still lots of questions though. The whole adapter approach and how they control it is interesting.
  44. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I like that perspective. My concern is the attitude of. I was going to buy a tesla so I could use the tesla network. But now that’s open to everyone I’ll buy a Hyundai. I’m probably just being paranoid. But that’s my concern.
  45. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

We are small investors, but one concern we have is the affect of opening up the Tesla network to non Teslas. From an investment point of view I have always looked at the supercharger network as a moat. A way to keep sales strong and stay in the lead. I’m not sure why Tesla feels it is a good...

Really good point. Just cancelled. Interesting that they asked why. We indicated we purchased a model Y instead.
