How long is too long to leave heat running while charging?

To precondition the battery, my Model 3 makes different sounds when I'm navigating to a Supercharger with a cold battery. It only does it at lower speeds, presumably because the motor/inverter generates enough heat under higher loads without artificially taxing it. Even regen sounds different in...

"New battery design can charge an electric car in 10 minutes"

The other issue is that a new battery tech needs to be tested for several years before it becomes mainstream. As @Rocky_H pointed-out above, there are so many things they need to get right before it can be viable in the market.

How long is too long to leave heat running while charging?

The new "scheduled charging" feature coming-out will help with this. It'll automatically start charging when it needs to in order to be complete by the set time (your departure time). Assuming you're using a level-2 connector, the charging-itself will warm-up the battery and the car will turn-on...

What will be the new HP numbers for AWD and P after 12.4?

Koenigsegg has done this, but ironically on a car that has electric motors to mitigate the liabilities of the ICE. The Koenigsegg Regera has 1500 hp and no transmission .

What will be the new HP numbers for AWD and P after 12.4?

Maybe they are publishing the max horsepower of which the motors are cable, and not what the actual battery/inverter are putting-out? The motors in the P and non-P are almost the same but the output allowed from the battery is different.

    Taycan Turbo S out-drags vanilla P100D

The video is very edited. The cars are in different lanes than when they started where they show the photo-finish. I'd like to see the race from start to finish with no editing. The truth will come-out once more of these races happen. If the truth is that the Taycan is faster than the legacy...

    FordPass Charging

Ford announced ChargePass for it's EV customers which is basically a way to pay to use existing charging stations. The articles out there of course spin it as an advantage over Tesla because it gives access to more plugs vs. Tesla SuperChargers. What they fail to mention is that Tesla cars can...

Don't want heater on, want vent

I'm not sure what you mean by the AC switching over @ 81. Are you saying that the AC switches-off if you set the temp @ 81 or above? If so, I guess they figure you don't want AC anymore if you set it that high. Sort of like the heat turns-off when you set to LO. I guess they could make a HI...

That would work. Sounds better now that you explain it that way.
  19. gavine

Don't want heater on, want vent

The autopilot cameras can't sense interior fog.
  20. gavine

Don't want heater on, want vent

This wouldn't work in humid climates. AC is still sometimes necessary in that temp range for humidity control. Granted, if your idea was implemented, the driver can engage defrost if/when the windows get foggy so still feasible.
  21. gavine

Don't want heater on, want vent

Some might argue that the heat uses more energy than the AC so, technically, if we are only able to have one toggle, it should be for heat, and not AC.
  22. gavine

Don't want heater on, want vent

I'm personally not a fan of those suggestions. It seems like it would be confusing for most people. I think a regular heat on/off toggle is more clear, understandable and usable.
  23. gavine

Don't want heater on, want vent

Understood, but I feel as though setting the temp to LO will put the compressor on high which makes it too cold in the cabin if I'm just looking to dehumidify.
  24. gavine

Don't want heater on, want vent

But sometimes you need AC to dehumidify and @ LO, it's too cold (runs compressor at full tilt). With a heater-off button, you can set a higher temperature so that the AC compressor runs on low and no heat gets mixed in.

    Heater on/off Button?

Wow. I started this thread and didn't realize so many other people are in the same boat. Thanks for sharing.
  26. gavine

    Heater on/off Button?

Just to clarify, my point was that it was chilly because of the air conditioner running to dehumidify. It wasn't chilly outside at all. My hope was that turning-up the temp a degree or two would lower the AC compressor output but not necessarily turn the heat element on. I understand that the...

I'm amazed at what owners don't know

Correct. The first time I charged at a destination charger back in 2014, I was surprised to see the charge speed at 40A being less than I get at home. At the time, I didn't understand why, but then realized that it was a 208V circuit instead of 240V at home. So the lower voltage, when multiplied...

I'm amazed at what owners don't know

Recently, I was topping-off at a Supercharger so I was sitting in the car. There were several available plugs, but a guy parked right next to me to charge. Tifton and Savannah GA SCs?

Too far off of I-95. It just generally takes to long to get there. Plus, it's in a paid garage so you have to walk-into the airport and show them your Tesla key to get validation in order to make the parking free.

    turn off heater?

I think he's talking about that foot rest pedal-looking thing in the foot well. He's tall so the space that this pedal takes-up would allow his left leg to extend more.
  38. gavine

    turn off heater?

If the AC compressor is running at its lowest level, it won't cool the air significantly, but will be enough to dehumidify the air still.

Could Tesla Model 3 Performance Match Taycan’s 24-Hr Endurance Record?

I wonder how many Tesla patents Porsche used in the Taycan. It would be interesting to see the list. Elon should share that list with the world. It would give Tesla more credibility, especially with how impressive the Taycan will be for EV newcomers.

Supercharging from 70% to 100% would take a while too. Probably close to an hour. Supercharging past 80% is very slow.

App and In-Car Charge Speed Discrepancy

I agree, but that still doesn’t explain the discrepancy. Does the app calculate the charge speed independently? I always assumed the app simply displayed whatever the MCU calculated. Apparently not.

No Loaners at Tesla Service "Bring back the LOANER CARS!!!!"

I haven't seen the tweet for a while, but from what I recall, my interpretation was that Elon wanted you to have a higher-end loaner so that you would upgrade next time you were buying a new car. I never thought he meant to sell you the actual loaner car.

No Loaners at Tesla Service "Bring back the LOANER CARS!!!!"

The last time I was in for service, they gave me a Model S 75D from Enterprise Rent-a-car. Apparently, they worked-out a deal with the local Enterprise to buy several Model S's and the service center rents them back. Enterprise can also rent these to "civilians" so it's a win-win. I'm not sure...

App and In-Car Charge Speed Discrepancy

I have been charging on a level-1 outlet the past two months. The MCU shows the rate as 4MPH but the app says 4MPH. It seems I'm actually getting 4MPH, but I wonder if anyone has an idea as to why the app shows a faster rate than the car-itself. This happens consistently so it's not a one-time...

Questions about charging on a long road trip

Use the trip tab in the energy app. It graphically shows what percentage of battery you will have at your destination and gives you a comfort level. It is also more accurate than the battery meter.
