Model S Fair Market Value for Tax Purposes

It's 2 years old - I'd say on the books it's worth 35% less than MSRP. Aren't they giving it a 50% residual after 36 months on the lease?

Tesla Bake Sale? 3 months until delivery

Alright - I've got magazine subscriptions and wrapping paper for sale, all proceeds go towards the Tesla Financial Assistance eco5280 Fund for Driving Excellence, or NAMBLA. For the price of a cup of coffee you can help one family realize their dream of driving a premium luxury vehicle.

Heated steering wheel. Am I going to get my hands on one?

Here's what I think about all the upgrades and the mania surrounding it from existing customers: I read, I don't know where, that most/all improvements made by Tesla would be retrofitable to existing vehicles. Free wasn't promised, but upgradability was more or less explicitly offered. This...

True Story or Not?: "Frunk opened at 115mph and caused $20k damage on brand new P85"

I think that would create a much less usable space. You'd have to load from the side of the car. Rear-hinged hoods are pretty well established for the last 80 years or so. They made the right choice :)

Heated steering wheel. Am I going to get my hands on one?

Thank you all for sharing this update - I've just asked my DS to add the weather package to my 85D order! It was the one feature I've been hoping for.

True Story or Not?: "Frunk opened at 115mph and caused $20k damage on brand new P85"

It's All Your Fault: The DOT Renders Its Verdict on Toyota's Unintended-Acceleration Scare The final word on the Toyota unintended-acceleration mess. "The DOT concluded that, other than a number of incidents caused by accelerators hanging up on incorrectly fitted floor mats, the accidents were...

True Story or Not?: "Frunk opened at 115mph and caused $20k damage on brand new P85"

Uh huh. It was ruled user error. Toyota was fined because they delayed telling the authorities, not because the cars were at fault.

True Story or Not?: "Frunk opened at 115mph and caused $20k damage on brand new P85"

No offense taken. Whatsoever. I enjoy a good dissection from time to time. - - - Updated - - - Thanks for posting that. Proves the common sense theory that the combination of "the frunk is open" and "my car just happens to have this unknown defect that the car doesn't report an...

True Story or Not?: "Frunk opened at 115mph and caused $20k damage on brand new P85"

I am not silencing anyone, at all. I encourage everyone to post your experiences, good or bad. I'm not a Tesla fanboy, I'm a forum fanboy. Long live forums. Tesla did not invent this sensor. Save my 1963 AMC Rambler American every vehicle I've ever been in has had a sensor for every door...

True Story or Not?: "Frunk opened at 115mph and caused $20k damage on brand new P85"

Possible? Sure. Anything's possible. The car could turn into a sewing machine if I enter the correct sequence on the key fob. Why not. But probable? I've had cars with key fobs for 20 years. Not one has ever let me do something it wasn't designed to do - like popping the trunk if the...

True Story or Not?: "Frunk opened at 115mph and caused $20k damage on brand new P85"

Here's the only way I think the frunk could cause damage: 1) You open the frunk. 2) You gently set it down and forget to push it down into the latches. 3) You begin driving. 4) The car alerts you that the frunk is open. 5) You ignore said warnings. 6) You accelerate enough that the airflow...

Business lease vs personal lease difference?

One's for a business, the other is for a person. I'm so sorry. I just couldn't resist. The real answer is talk to your accountant. You may have tax benefits for putting the company under your corporate umbrella.

Any plans for 4G on the MS?

Analog cell phone towers survived probably 10 years once digital signals came out. Just FYI. So many devices use 3G (OnStar, vehicle communications a la Tesla, cell phones, tablets, personal safety devices, etc etc etc etc ad nauseum) that I think 3G will be around at least 5+ years. - - -...

Any plans for 4G on the MS?

First - some of are you talking about 4G LTE in cars as if it's been a standard for years and Tesla is behind. The 2015 Audi A3 was the first car ever in the US market with 4G LTE, and now Chevy is putting it on lots of models too. But it's certainly not widespread yet. I agree with the...

Any plans for 4G on the MS?

VZW is different than the other carriers - they're really the only ones on their towers. They are the only major CDMA player in America. GSM on the other hand encompasses about every other wireless carrier. (Sprint is the only other "major" CDMA player but they are hovering at 7% of the market)

    Remote Activation of Front/Rear Defrosters

I really hate it when the Nissan Leaf is better than the Model S at anything. Their app-HVAC-pre-warm (or cool) lets you turn on the seat heaters, the heated steering wheel and any HVAC settings you want, including defroster.

What other really interesting and unique vehicles have you owned?

I've always been into the cars that a little out of the ordinary. I had an Isuzu VehiCROSS, I'm leasing a Nissan Leaf, and own a 1991 Lotus Elan. I always wanted a Qvale Mangusta but as I got older the look of it stopped appealing to me as much. What have you owned that's weird or unique...

Drove a brand new loaner!!! (I didn't like driver assist)

I test drove a car with those features and liked them. But seriously with the complaining, you can turn them off in two seconds. I would love a self-parking feature as they've discussed. It's been available for 8 years in all sorts of brands and models. From the Lexus LS to the Ford Focus.

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

Honestly? Are you messing with me or do you really not know how to read? The ESA says you must follow Tesla's maintenance schedule. Tesla's maintenance schedule says to bring it to Tesla every year. If you can't follow that, I suggest perhaps you ought not be in the business of reading or...

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

RESOLUTION IN OUR FAVOR I reached out to Tesla and got a firm unambiguous response - Tesla service is NOT required to keep the ESA valid. I am CORRECT that the ESA contract does stipulate this, however they are revising the verbiage to be clear that service is NOT required and once it passes...
  37. E

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

Quite clear? Not even close. The ESA says this: So it's quite clear that for the ESA to remain valid you must follow all Tesla service recommendations. This is not ambiguous. In your Tesla owner's manual under maintenance, you will read this: So - putting one foot in front of the other...

Curious - what hardware upgrades have they performed on the Model S thus far?

Reason for this thread? Here it is: I've been wondering loudly if the service plans are worth it, and if the ESA is valid without getting yearly service. Then a purported Tesla service tech posted this in my thread: So of course I was curious what he was talking about. Conclusion? Sounds...

    A) That list is from nearly 2 years ago and is reported to be out of date B) I don't disagree (although you may void the warranty changing coolant yourself), except that it's in our contract that to maintain your warranty you must BRING IT TO TESLA. Not perform the work - bring it to them to...
