At an $18K purchase price, it is hard to justify. $18K becomes $20K with tax and shipping. Add $30K for a new battery and we're at $50K before even starting repairs, which will probably run another $20-30K. That's $70-80K.

I have charged my 1.5s with the J1772 CAN adapter, and two different Tesla adapters. No problems at all.

To give an ending to the story—I followed the Elise instructions this morning and they worked. I was able to change the instrument binnacle with nothing more than a Phillips screwdriver. It does require a certain amount of jostling and a little force, though. But here's the finished product:

Hi folks, I just got a carbon fiber instrument binnacle. Is there an easy way to remove the plastic one and install the CF one? Or is this something I should leave to the Tesla service center?

I am, definitely. And a couple more Tesla logos will be added on in vinyl. I don't want people thinking it's a Lotus. ;)

The drivetrain is not repairable by anyone but Tesla. And to echo ecarfan, almost any repair is expensive. I just had a switchpack fail, which will cost $1-1.5K. A PEM failure could be $5-10K. Body work is similar. The carbon fiber body is very strong. But in a serious collision, it will...

I get the external charger problem now and then from my 1.5s. Resetting the charger seems to solve it.

My 1.5s make the same sound when the fans spin up, but the pulsating isn't something I've heard before.

Thanks for the reminder! I totally forgot to post the photos. I did the install myself in about 5 minutes. Here's how they look: I will probably put a 3M Scotchguard wrap around the silver scuff plates soon.

To follow up on the question of fuses, how does one identify a blown one? I would love it if my problem were a blown fuse instead of a bad switchpack.

ecarfan, I had the same problem a few weeks ago. #483 displayed a Low Power System error, along with a TPMS error. A few minutes later, I was able to start the vehicle, and both the TPMS and Low Power System errors went away. However, the radio and the heated seats no longer work. I assume this...

Congrats! I have one with 108,000, that got a new battery a couple thousand miles ago. Great range and everything else works beautifully.

Refurbished battery in November of last year for a 1.5 Roadster was $6,000.

Go order them while you can! As for the scuff plate, I've heard how fragile it is. I might even take it to a local shop and see about adding a clear 3M vinyl covering for protection.
