Firmware 9 in August will start rolling out full self-driving features!!!

This sounds like the likeliest scenario I've heard in a while. Imagine how much less stress and liability and pissed-off customers there would be if Elon had just kept his mouth shut about FSD from the get-go and not had it as an option to buy until it was proven to work. I'm sure they would...

Firmware 9 in August will start rolling out full self-driving features!!!

I never understood why AP needs three different zoom level cameras pointing forward. You could accomplish the same thing with a sensor that has way more pixels and uses the widest lens. If the NN wants to concentrate on a narrow field of view, just use the middle pixels of the high-res sensor.

Firmware 9 in August will start rolling out full self-driving features!!!

I think the tweaking of the images to fool the NN has to be somewhat contrived. I don't think random noise or other normal variances causes the problem. I could be wrong though, if someone else has more info on this.

    Supercharging Nightmare Begins

I didn't know that was what they were doing with their converter. You are right of course that two opposite phase circuits can accomplish the same thing. One thing to consider is that all the plugs in a typical garage are probably on the same circuit. So you will need some long extension...

    Supercharging Nightmare Begins

The 15 amp 120 plug will limit the charger to 12 amps. So that would be 120*15=1440 watts. Or 1.44kWh per hour. Model X gets about 333 wh/mile. So that would be about 4 miles/hour. The 20 amp 120 plug is limited to 16 amps. That would be 16*120=1920 watts. Or about 6 miles/hour. The most...

    Supercharging Nightmare Begins

You don't need to convert to 220 because all Tesla chargers can connect directly to 120. Your converter box doesn't magically create more power because it converts to 220 from 110. It just halves the current when it doubles the voltage, so you end up with the same power. Minus the inevitable...

    Supercharging Nightmare Begins

In a free market, shortages only happen when prices are artificially kept down. Solution? Raise prices until there aren't shortages. Use the extra capital you make from high prices and use it to build more stalls. When there aren't shortages anymore, lower the prices again. Problem solved.

Musk tweets, traffic lights, stop signs and roundabouts are in testing

I don't get why he doesn't just shut up about stuff until it is ready to release. What possible advantage does it bring him to promise stuff he doesn't know for sure that he can deliver? If he had never made any of the predictions for EAP and FSD, everybody would just be happy when new...

    Software Update 2018.42.x

Why couldn't they just make the window layout a setting in the control panel? Either the classic look or floating windows. The apps themselves don't care about how the window manager works, it is transparent to them.

    BUY FSD TODAY!

Much more likely that Elon realized it's never gonna happen and is throwing in the towel.

    screen discoloration

Nov. 2017 Model S here. Started the yellow banding about 1 month ago. I'm waiting for them to run out of MCU1 units to get it replaced, so that they will put in an MCU2 under warranty.

    Elon Standard Time Scalar

I think I have figured out the Elon Standard Time Scalar (tm). It is the value of Pi. I believe that Elon thinks of time in units of radians. Around Aug. 1, Elon said V9 would be out at the end of August. Multiply 1 month by 3.14 and you get somewhere around the 4th of Nov. So my prediction...

Firmware 9 in August will start rolling out full self-driving features!!!

It requires 2.5 because 2.5 has an extra CPU onboard that is used for H.264 video compression. Video compression is CPU intensive and 2.0 hardware can't do it and EAP at the same time.

Software Update 2018.39 4a3910f (plus other v9.0 early access builds)

It looks like it is utilizing all the cameras now for EAP functionality. How does that work for the earlier 2.0 AP where you could order EAP only (No FSD) and it used to only ship with the front and rear camera? Halfway through, Elon started shipping them with all cameras regardless, but what...

A word of warning for potential Tesla owners.

It all depends on how damaged it is. I just had a dented door and rocker panel, no biggie.

AutoPilot Buddy now officially banned in USA!

I sure am glad that Tesla always knows the perfect risk/convenience trade-off for their nag settings. Because of their omniscience, they knew to set to 20 seconds instead of 2 minutes or 20 minutes or 2 seconds (at least for this week). Just like the Pope, whatever nag interval they choose for...

AutoPilot Buddy now officially banned in USA!

That is true, but as a software engineer, I sympathize with Tesla because of how hard the problem is. What I don't sympathize with is that they sold FSD before they knew they could deliver. And they don't give the driver an option to disable the various nags for EAP and the seat belt.
  23. I

AutoPilot Buddy now officially banned in USA!

It wasn't so much a safety improver than a CYA move for the lawyers. There hasn't been a drastic change in AP incidents since the nag policy was implemented. If you want to make perfectly safe vehicles, you should limit them to 5 MPH. That would virtually eliminate the 40,000 deaths per year...

AutoPilot Buddy now officially banned in USA!

So when Tesla didn't have nags, they were as negligent as the people making this product? Because all this does is return to that setup. Or is it that whatever the NTSB says is infallible, even when it changes. Since the Feds are God, we must slavishly do whatever they think is best for us...

Hey, just got the 9.0 update!

Just like Elon said, it would be released by the end of August. It is amazing! It has a bunch of new features, like: Atari games, and the version card that says "V9.0"! Actually, just kidding. I always love the disappointment of no FSD functionality still.

Firmware 9 in August will start rolling out full self-driving features!!!

I'm quite certain the features for first V9 rollout will be: Version string on the "About" card saying "V9.0" A couple of Atari games. BTW, AP3 hardware isn't gonna make the difference between the current situation where it can't even read a stop sign and driving as well as professional...

A word of warning for potential Tesla owners.

I had the same experience with a dented driver side door being fixed at ServiceKing. Had to force my way in to their lot after 2 months of waiting to get my car back while parts were pending. Turns out, Tesla has a 3-tier prioritization scheme for body parts. It starts out at "1", then the...

Just got a loaner S with AP1. It is still better than AP2.5

It seems to be much smoother keeping the center of the lane. It was great finally being able to auto lane-change on surface streets. Plus the dash showed the correct vehicle type. Is version 9.0 supposed to enable auto lane-change for AP2 cars?

    Firmware Version 9

Sorry, I actually was thinking more along the lines of Android Auto. I have Android, and actually don't like Apple much. If Apple is going to be like that, they can shove off as far as I am concerned. But there is no stability risk or need to give up control of the UI with Android Auto, so...

    Firmware Version 9

Every hour of development time they waste with stupid games is an hour they could have spent developing CarPlay or some other mirroring protocol. Then you can put whatever game or whatever on your phone and mirror it on the car display. And other people can put whatever they want was well...

Firmware 9 in August will start rolling out full self-driving features!!!

Well, that sucks. I was under the impression that some small part of FSD, like reading speed limit signs would be included in the initial release of version 9 with 2.x hardware. I mean, how much more hardware would that take? Mobileye can do it with 1/40 the power of hardware 2. That's the...

At this point, FSD would be worth the price if all it did was turn off AP nag!

I took my Model S to the SC a couple of weeks ago and told them not to update the software (I had 2018.14.1). Of course, they went ahead and did it anyway. Autopilot is now completely unusable with the 20 second nags. I almost never use it anymore because if my hand has to be on the wheel all...

As a FSD purchaser, at this point it would be worth the money I spent to just have the AP nag go away for the FSD option.
