Awesome. Sounds like we might have a bill to review in a month or two to see which theory is correct on how they calculate it. I spoke with thevaibhav and it seems like it might take a few months to get an accurate reading due to solar overproduction vs consumption. Also, definitely seems like...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

I tried adding on car charger after contract and close to install date and got the run around since everything was already designed, permit approved and about to be installed. After the delay I asked about adding panels and again got pushed off that engineering is backed up and it would delay my...

    Combination panel with gateway

I think I asked a few times as well and never got anything until the permit plans showed up at the house. Then I scanned them to my computer. You can check with your building department. It may be more difficult, but you may actually get them vs Tesla may have policy not to send because it would...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

    1. My Powerwalls were installed 11/7 by the Orlando office. FPL disconnected and reconnected service to the house that day so that the install could be completed. No idea why they wouldn't have done the install the same way with you, unless they couldn't get FPL to turn off service. FPL guy that...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

I couldn't get a straight answer, but furthering on my assumption from previous post, if they do look at kWh separately from peak/off-peak then you could end up with both a kWh credit and cost credit in May. Below is my THEORY: 1. May over produced 100 kWH peak and pulled 40kWh off-peak from the...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

I spoke with someone from FPL today about TOU meter. They said they will get it installed by next meter reading, which is in 20 days. She said they will do the TOU overlay for the days I was on TOU. Since I'm not on net metering yet, I didn't mention being in the application process in order to...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

My neighbor has an oversized solar system and is on regular net-meter (not a TOU meter), he got $0.02/kWh for over supply at year end a week ago. That's less than the fuel-only charge. My coworker who used to work for FPL explained it as an incremental cost credit, like they only give you what...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

I didn't realize the app would give you so many options on what to do with solar and how to power house. I think I can avoid peak charges with my system (tracked the first week so far and was able to use no peak power by using solar from the weekend to get me through the peak periods during the...

Tax credit, install date or permitted date?

Tesla called me a few days ago to tell me my inspection issues would likely not be resolved this year but that I qualify for tax credit since it is installed. They said there is some dispute over how the calculations are done, the county inspectors agree but they need board approval to approve...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

I hope to be on it ASAP but it may take a month to get approved to turn solar on and then I'm told I need to request the TOU meter. My understanding is that credit carry over month to month until December and then they are paid out (at lower rate since there will be no taxes on them). The peak...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

I ran some more calcs and I think what I really need is to change the reserve level up while off-peak and drop it during on-peak. I think this would comply with requirements of not charging from grid, I just need to control when it discharges. Anyone tried playing with this. Install is...

Any issue with having the switching and solar gear outside and Powerwall in garage?

It might have to do with the way its wired. FPL i think needed to be there to pull and reinstall the meter, but maybe not if the electrician has permission. The reason they cut power is that the electrician had to re-wire the meter box in my setup and one set of connections in the box would be...

    Powerwall and Pumps

Tesla called yesterday, they are able to do my solar install this Saturday! And they added another 2 Soft Starts to my order! I wonder where they will install, there is room for them in HVAC equipment, but pumps are much smaller.

    Powerwall and Pumps

Thanks. I'll send an email to my Tesla rep. BTW I have 3 Powerwalls, but HP on pump is much larger than AHU, so I think there is reason for concern.

    Powerwall and Pumps

I know there are dozens of threads about PW and AC systems, but my question is regarding other motors like pumps. Tesla brought out two Hyper Engineering SureStarts for my install. I'm assuming they will install one in my AHU and one in my condensing unit. While waiting for Tesla to come back...

    Gateway and WiFi

I didn't see anyone mention wired, did I miss something, maybe you are talking wireless within the system. I was told I needed an internet connection but not a hard wired one so I assumed it would be wireless. On install day they asked where my router was and said they needed to see it. They are...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

I agree with miimura, I'm not going to be able to use Time Based Control. I read another post today of someone getting their power company to release Telsa to allow Time Based Control, but you risk jeopardizing your ITC savings ($7,000 in my case).

Any issue with having the switching and solar gear outside and Powerwall in garage?

In case you want more data, it was a three man team working from 9am to 2pm, one guy left and the otheres finished install. There was some cleaning up of wiring in my panel they did and they drilled through a DIY install I did and they re-installed better than I had it to begin with. They...

Any issue with having the switching and solar gear outside and Powerwall in garage?

No, that's a load panel, see attached photo with panels open. Its acting as disconnect, maybe the switch on the inverter also acts as disconnect.

Any issue with having the switching and solar gear outside and Powerwall in garage?

No disconnect installed or shown on the plans. I recall reading something on the plans about the breaker being considered disconnect per NEC. SInce the panels are outside, maybe thats why I didnt need one. That said, the install is not dont so they could install one on the roof, but I doubt that...

    Combination panel with gateway

They were separate. I got lots of wrong answers until the actual electrician showed up, so don't worry too much about getting answers, as they may not be what ends up happening. Even the installers the morning of the install were telling me I could install everything inside my garage, but then...

Any issue with having the switching and solar gear outside and Powerwall in garage?

I wanted my panels inside and they told me its better outside. I pushed for inside because I "thought" it would be better. They said that install only covers so much and If I push there may be extra charges. I let them do the panels outside and it turned out great. The only conduit added in my...

    Combination panel with gateway

I just had my install done in florida and it seemed that if they did yours like mine, they would just need to run power our of the panel to gateway and then pack in They basically intercepted the main wire from meter to my panel to insert the gateway. The main panel is behind the meter can. The...

Thanks for all the feedback, very helpful! Time to update this post. I increased my system after contract (had to sign a new contract) but long before install to 9kW and 3 powerwalls. Charging Powerwalls from generator

Great idea, just shift some load off the powerwall that will run consistently and get a similar result. In my case probably run garage fridges/freezers. What inverter did you go with? I was trying to get the setup from EVextend.com but they stopped selling right as I was researching this option.

    Charging Powerwalls from generator

Thanks. I'm trying to use my Chevy Volt as the Generator to charge my Powerwalls. The generator comment was because this was the closest thing that others on the forum might have done and I could use that as a comparison point.

    Charging Powerwalls from generator

I know this doesn't seem to make sense, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience or has read about anyone trying to charge their Powerwalls from a generator. I'm about to have 3 Powerwalls installed and I have a 2018 Chevy Volt. On cloudy days during a potential hurricane outage in...

Free wall charger if I order solar today?

I have solar and Powerwalls install for $48,000 scheduled for November, it might be a little late to try to negotiate free charger, but I'm going to try. I do not have a Tesla yet, but maybe if I place order for Model Y they will be open to throwing this in. I asked about getting an outlet...

I received my proposal summary today (central Florida)

I posted about this a few weeks back. The answer was that FPL does allow it and there are only like 10 customers that do this. I'm planning to switch after my install in September/October. I asked Tesla yesterday if they could do that with my install and they said I needed to request it after...

Which panels are now offered by Tesla?

Hanwha was the only thing offered in my June quote. Inverters switched back and forth from Solivia and Solar Edge. They offered solar edge at no additional cost when i requested microinverters. They said they only offer solar edge for roofs with shading issues, which mine has, but interesting...

Tesla Solar and Powerwall for a large home?

I have a 2,000 ACSF house and I am under contract with Tesla for 11.7kW solar and 3 Powerwalls. I had the same approach to my system design, just a smaller house. Tesla originally suggested 1 powerwall for partial back-up, we upgraded to 2 for whole house back up. I built a spreadsheet to...

    TOU in Florida w FPL

Is anyone using the residential TOU metering in Florida with FPL? Does it also allow Net Metering? I did some research on FPL website this morning in regards to my system below and it seems like I could save with TOU, but savings may not pay off if I can't net meter. The website indicates you...

Powerwalls (2) + Solar Panels (10kW) in Florida

Thanks! Seems like Envoy is likely a waste of time/money. Tesla just responded that they will not do Enphase on my install, but did offer Solar Edge inverter with optimizers at no extra charge. I'm planning to add solar with Enphase microinverters and may just get the Envoy monitoring since...

Powerwalls (2) + Solar Panels (10kW) in Florida

I'm looking for some info/suggestions for future solar expansion after Tesla solar install. I'm very close to signing the Tesla agreement and I wanted to check one last thing. My solar panel layout is not ideal for energy production since most of the panels are facing east and west and due to...

Solar panel facing east or north?

Go to PVWatts Calculator. You can put in the roof slopes (there is a conversion guide if you hit the "i" next to slope) and orientation (north vs east). I would just put in 1kw or 10kw system and run the calc on north and east, then compare the production per year. I used that on my house to...

Solar + Powerwall Quote/Plans Received Today

Update after call today. 1. Second Powerwall looks like it will be $6,700 installed. Adviser has no idea what the " * " stands for. 3. Solar + Powerwall Quote/Plans Received Today

    Solar Panels + Powerwall

Thanks everyone. Not sure I understand all the responses yet, but I'm trying to get there.
