    Tesla app vs Utility meter

After literally weeks of investigation by several guys from the utility (PG&E) I finally figured out what was wrong. There was a short between the input to my meter and the output from it to my breaker box. So some of the current from the utility was flowing directly to my house without being...

Model S Plaid V11 Energy App missing

I noticed the same thing on Ryan Shaw’s YouTube review. I hope it’s just something temporary. The trip energy use estimation is my main tool for planning charging stops. I’ve always found it to be just slightly conservative but immensely useful. Tesla: please bring it back!!

    Tesla app vs Utility meter

I’m getting inconsistencies between what the Tesla app reports and what my utility’s meter reports for both power and energy use. Tesla’s numbers are consistently about 20-25% higher. The correlation is perfect at all power levels. I even went so far as to measure the current going in to the...

    About those Cybertires

Having an option for off-road or street tires would be a very good thing. I would happily trade some 0-60 for better off-road traction. If I want to drag race on the street I’ll stick with my MS.

    Tire Size? Lift Kit?

I assume the 16” clearance is with the suspension at its maximum height.

If this is true then the solar version would have an INFINITE range. You just have to be very patient :-)

Offroad performance similar to a Humvee?

Motor Trend says there's no hope of a 2-door version. There are pluses and minuses to a long wheelbase. But what really matters is the breakover angle. No specs given but it doesn't look good. Maybe bigger tires could help but not much I'm afraid.

    About those Cybertires

I've been assuming that what you see in the pictures is not the real wheel, just a cover. That cover would be instantly destroyed by the first rock it encountered. Hopefully, one could just pop those covers off while airing down the tires at the trailhead. The tires, OTOH, look pretty good for...

Offroad performance similar to a Humvee?

Well, an H1 was pretty good in that respect. If the Cybertruck is anywhere close it will be great. I've had my lifted Wrangler on a side slope at an angle of 25 degrees and let me tell you that's really terrifying. I'm sure the Cybertruck will be able to do considerably better than that. I'm...

Where's the spare tire??? Going off-road without a full-size spare tire is insane.

Offroad performance similar to a Humvee?

The MotorTrend site claims they're 35s. If that's right it's probably possible to go up to 37s. That would be pretty good! https://www.motortrend.com/cars/tesla/cybertruck/2021/tesla-cybertruck-electric-pickup-photos-info It also claims that there's some sort of underneath protection. That's...

Offroad performance similar to a Humvee?

Agreed. Though the approach and departure angles aren't that great, either. Anyone have any idea how big the tires on the demo truck were? I looks to me like it might be possible to put slightly bigger tires on but not much. This is probably the biggest single thing that will make or break the...

Offroad performance similar to a Humvee?

I don’t think it will come anywhere near the H1 for serious rock crawling. It will be fine for the easy stuff. Might even manage the Rubicon Trail with an expert driver. But the approach and departure angles are not even as good as a stock Jeep Wrangler let alone an H1. And we don’t know how...

New "Chill / Normal" acceleration modes?

Does Chill mode simply reduce the max power when the pedal is all the way down or does it change the pedal-position vs power-output curve so that full power is still available when it's "floored"?

Tesla website Charging page redesign, future SC site location map gone

    Weird incoming phone call

As I was driving home this afternoon in a quiet residential neighborhood, all of a sudden my Tesla emitted a loud sound and the screen behind the wheel lit up with what looked like an incoming call. But the sound was not at all like the normal incoming call sound and my iPhone itself did not...

    Autopilot automatically slows in curves?

Yes, but it does a horrible job of it. I tried using it on a couple of mountain roads a while back and it consistently slowed down WAY WAY too much. Worse, it doesn't slow down BEFORE the corner bur rather in the middle of it. That's worse than nothing. t ended up just turning it off. It needs...

    Firmware 7.1

I agree. Driving on a 2-lane mountain road TACC is worse than useless. I have to turn it off. If it would just hold the set speed as an old-fashion cruise control would then it would be just fine; I can manually tap the brake for the odd corner that may require slowing.

    Model S RHD Pedal positioning

This is perhaps my biggest complaint about my Tesla. That damn alarm is just way to sensitive. I use both feet especially when going very slowly and going between forward and reverse. It's much easier to control the car smoothly by using both feet. But the damn alarm goes off if both pedals are...

    Tesla Powered Truck Thoughts

My dream is a Tesla "jeep". 4 motors, serious ground clearance (preferably with lots of air suspension travel), big diameter tires, lots of armor underneath. I don't worry about range: my Jeep driving off road is so horrendously inefficient that I often get <5 mpg. That's mostly down to very low...

    Auto lane change

Huh? Two seconds (three blinks) is plenty of time wait before starting the turn after signaling intent. But I would argue that after the three blinks it should continue to blink until the lane change is complete. This is, of course, assuming that the driver has already ascertained that the turn...
  25. billarnett

    Auto lane change

Right. When driving manually I typically use the single tap three click feature, that's what it's there for. Latching it down for "auto" lane change would mean having to do a second action to unlatch it. I would rather concentrate on the road. OK, it's not that hard. It just would be a lot...
  26. billarnett

    Auto lane change

I don't particularly like the way the lane change UI works. I was lead to believe by the marketing hype that all that was required was a tap on the turn signal lever and it would initiate the turn. Of course, it's the driver's responsibility to make sure that the turn is safe at that point. I...

    EVmote App

OK, I just signed up. I really like the idea of continuously saving the track log. But it doesn't seem to work 100% correctly. I tried two little trips around the block. Each time it lost the first few seconds of the trip making the track look like I drove the the middle of my neighbor's yard...

    My Tesla Model S wishlist

    0. Cache the map tiles for the entire route so that the map doesn't go blank when outside cell phone range. 1. Make the + and - buttons on the Nav screen bigger and put them on the left side of the screen so they're easier to reach; move the turn list to the right side. 2. The NAV's trip over...

    Autopilot 1.01 coming soon...

It slows with only TACC, no Auto Steer. After a few scary fails, I decided that Auto Steer isn't quite ready for normal (for me) cornering speeds (we're not talking racing speeds here; just a bit more than average).

    Autopilot test on curvy road

Lets hope that "improved" means a Setting to accommodate a range of different driving styles. The way it works now is so outrageously conservative from my perspective that I have to turn AP off completely on curvy roads. Others may have the opposite opinion. It would seem to be easy enough to...

    Autopilot is already improving.

I just came back from a trip across the Sierras on Hwy 120 thru Yosemite. The TACC was almost useless because of this "feature" :-( Sometimes, and I couldn't accurately predict when, it would slow down for a corner by a huge amount, 10 or 20 mph, even though in my judgement it would have been...
  33. billarnett

    Autopilot 1.01 coming soon...

Yes, but doesn't that pretty much defeat the whole purpose of having cruise control in the first place? I tried do that for a while and quickly decided that it was easier just to drive manually.
  34. billarnett

    Autopilot 1.01 coming soon...

My experience with this in the last few days puts me squarely in the "upset" camp. It slows down much too much for my taste. I had to turn off the TACC several times for this reason. It was much easier to just drive manually than to try to override TACC when it decided to slow inappropriately...

Supercharger - Mammoth Lakes, CA (8 V2 stalls)

I just drove my P85D from Manteca to Mammoth. After a 100% charge in Manteca and driving mostly only 5 mph over the limit I made it to Mammoth with 4% remaining. The car's nav insanely tried to route me thru Bakersfield and Lone Pine but I just ignored that. I was well, past Oakdale before it...

How Satisfied Are You With Autopilot?

How Satisfied Are You With Autopilot?

I tried putting my hands on my knees with one thumb gentry resting on the bottom of the steering wheel. That seems to usually be enough to keep the Nagging Nanny at bay. And my intuition is that if I had to take over quickly I would be OK. The key to auto steering at this point is to be very...

    P85D Ludicrous Pre-Order Upgrade Available 9/25/15

    Supercharger - Gardnerville, NV

Add my plea for Lee Vining. Or better yet, Crane Flat though I expect that might be problematic. The point is to make it easy to get from the Bay Area to Mammoth. Manteca to Mammoth is a stretch.

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"
