First 2022 VINs (and changes) discussion / Thread

Same thing happened to me for my model 3 back in 2019. It was the first year Tesla did this but I got my VIN 10/25/19 and it was a 2020 VIN. If they follow suit, we should see the 2022 VINs drop soon.

Do not subscribe to FSD on delivery before confirming Auto Pilot works after calibration

As an update the service department called me back and told me they will issue me a check for the subscription amount and will take around 3-4 weeks to be processed and get to me. Not sure why it is this hard for them to do refunds when especially it's their fault but I guess it's not built into...

Do not subscribe to FSD on delivery before confirming Auto Pilot works after calibration

I got delivery of my MYP a little over a month ago. I traded my Model 3 with EAP so, getting used to that, I wanted to subscribe to FSD to have navigate on autopilot and auto park from day one. Little that I know, my autopilot was faulty and didn't work from the factory. Of course you don't know...

    Current Delivery Times

The one good thing about the delay in delivery is my model 3 performance trade in value was $49,200 when I put the order in and now it is up to $51,200. It's crazy but it might even go higher before I take delivery! I am almost asking my SA daily to submit the new trade value. It is changing...

Some states don't require a VIN but just an active insurance. That's what I did with my order in VA by just using my model 3's insurance info.

    Adding Range( batteries)

You wouldn't even need this if Tesla enabled car to grid charge capability. From what I understand, our vehicles are already capable of this. Even within Tesla community, the owners would then help each other by sharing their charge with stranded owners. Just plug Tesla to Tesla, just enough to...

    Adding Range( batteries)

The solution will be adding electric powertrain to campers with their own battery pack. That way, you can lower the consumption of the towing vehicle down to what it normally would be in regular driving conditions. So for a model Y for example, you can still tow and travel over 250 miles which...

    Upgrade to FSD before increase?

I just purchased EAP couple of weeks back and to me that's more then enough. It is so much fun driving this car, I am afraid if I was to upgrade to FSD I would never drive to justify the money I need to pay. Even with EAP, I don't even bother driving anymore on the highway, at least now I have...

Is the latest change in the Model 3 AWD range due to software or hardware?

Looks like 2020.40.7 is adding 10 miles of range to existing model Ys. No word on model 3s. Perhaps it only improves if there is a heat pump. From the release notes “your car’s range has increased with new software that improves the efficiency of the motors and the climate control system.”

Is the latest change in the Model 3 AWD range due to software or hardware?

"A source familiar with the matter told Electrek that Tesla has equipped new Model 3 vehicles with a new “efficiency package” that improves on Tesla’s already industry-leading efficiency and resulting in the longer range." No idea what that is.

Is the latest change in the Model 3 AWD range due to software or hardware?

It doesn't look like software. It's probably the 5% improved battery that will be on the new models. We will know for sure soon once someone gets delivery and connects scan my Tesla to measure the nominal pack.

New M3 battery in parts catalogue?

I do understand where they are coming from trying to show EVs can be used both as a daily driver and for taking long trips but instead of quoting unrealistic range numbers if they were advertising the actual achievable numbers, I believe that honest approach would have attracted more buyers and...

New M3 battery in parts catalogue?

I wish they left the ranges as is with the updated battery packs. It would have hide the initial degradation for a very long time and also would give out a more realistic and achievable range estimate. It doesn't make sense to sell a car with a range estimate that is unrealistic in almost any...

    Model 3 trade in.

Do you have FSD option? If not that price seems normal. They have the updated 2021 models starting from $38K. That KBB trade in value doesn't make sense for standard range.

    Battery drain

It is very high and with that consumption the range you are getting is normal. You should be around 150Wh/km to get the rated range.

Battery drain while parked or car in storage

My battery drain still seems to be pretty good. Parked the car with 252 miles Monday afternoon and it was at 251 miles this morning after almost 4 days. Perhaps the 252 was not accurate and it did gain some after I parked but still it showed only 1 mile loss.

    Battery swap?

The battery swap would have worked nicely if you didn't own the battery but leased it. So you wouldn't care about what battery back you would get out of the swap since you would never own it. There are some companies that do that in Europe. Not the swap but the battery lease. I believe Renault...

Battery drain while parked or car in storage

I own a performance and live in a condo without an outlet as well. So no charging at home but no issues so far not having a charger at home. As for how long you can leave without plugging in, my experience is, I left mine without plugging in for around 30 days and lost around 10% during that...

    160 miles on charge 92%-4%

I would say with that efficiency it is normal. 260Wh/mi for SR+ is on the higher side. I do get around 250Wh/mi on my LR performance under same conditions. It might be due to factors like altitude change or wind perhaps.

I usually get around 100 miles per 40% . What is your charging habits and also your lifetime consumption? I charge to 90% but I don't have access to home charging so I don't keep it plugged in. I usually drive until it is around 30% and then charge it up to 90% again. My lifetime consumption is...

Model 3 Performance - charged to 100% shows 293 miles range. Why?

When I first purchased my 2020 P3D- with 19inch wheels begining of November 2019, it showed 279 for 90% and 310 for 100%. It stayed likey that until I hit 500 miles and then I received an update which changed the EPA constant and made it dependent on the wheel size selection which dropped my...

Coming from eGolf, my Model 3 SR+ range doesn't feel right

The range figures doesn't mean much since it is meant to be from 100% down to 0% on a straight drive without stops which is not realistic. Losing battery overnight

If you are driving everyday, it seems to drain more overnight when not plugged in. If you leave it for a longer period of time it drains less. It goes to a deeper sleep. I recently went on a trip and didn't drive for 15-16 days and it only drained around 4%. Last December went on a trip for 29...

Suddenly lost 10 miles of range.

Which wheels do you have? I have a 2020 stealth with almost same miles and mine shows 295 with 19inch wheels. Window sticker 304. So it's not too far off. With my 260Wh/mi constant, my nominal pack is around 76.5 kwh.

Supercharging only is that an option?

I know of 2 owners with early batch 2018 LRRWD vehicles with 130K miles that almost exclusively supercharge. They said no throttling when they are super charging. One of them claims he charges to 100% all the time through superchargers as well. They both have less then 10% degradation. One of...

    Question for battery scientists

Your vehicle's BMS calculates the available range based on the battery capacity it thinks the vehicle has and using the constant set by Tesla depending on your vehicle trim. So if you move the slider to get more rated miles, like you said you are charging it to a bigger percentage. So I don't...

Tesla model 3 awd lr only getting 286 miles of range at 100% charge

I think the worst I have heard is 275-280 for performance 2020 with 20 inch wheels. And that's about 8% loss. Mine is 2020 performance with 19 inch wheels, 7 months old and around 4500 miles and shows 3% loss. My main difference like I mentioned before is, I don't have home charging so I don't...

Tesla model 3 awd lr only getting 286 miles of range at 100% charge

I don't think you need to get it under 10% for regular use. 30% should be sufficient. If you can drive 2 days in a row without plugging in and that takes you down to somewhere 20-30%, that would be a good test to see if you reclaim any miles back instead of plugging in every night. So your...

Tesla model 3 awd lr only getting 286 miles of range at 100% charge

Here is another model 3 LRRWD that has 100K miles. Rated range 290. So if you take 310 as the base for when he bought the car, it has around 7% loss. If you take 325 as the new base, he has around 11% loss. These are also first batch of Tesla model 3s hitting over 100K. So you would think the...

I am just hoping you are wrong and I am right. I don't want to belive there are unicorn battery packs out there and even if they are abused they still have less degradation compared to someone babying it. I just don't get how one owner with 130K miles charging to 100% almost daily through...

Tesla model 3 awd lr only getting 286 miles of range at 100% charge

Not to reset the BMS, I meant to measure the real capacity. The numbers you see on the display is what BMS thinks your capacity is. It should be accurate when brand new and might get out of calibration when used and we might be thinking that's degradation. Check this article. It talks about the...

Tesla model 3 awd lr only getting 286 miles of range at 100% charge

So your car only goes from 50-60% to 90% everyday and calculates capacity based on that. Did you ever try draining it below 10% and then charging it up to 100% to see if it makes any difference on the rated range?
  42. vsansal

Tesla model 3 awd lr only getting 286 miles of range at 100% charge

That's exactly my point. Those rated miles are what the BMS thinks how much energy is left and not necessarily the actual capacity of the battery. With identical battery cells, on every model 3/Y it doesn't make sense there is that much difference on the capacity and degradation. And like I...

  44. vsansal

Cabin heating to 89F while charging.

Was your HVAC off? Also was it a lower temperature before you started charging and it went up to 89? Charging has nothing to do with cabin temperature unless you are using HVAC to distribute it internally. Was it warm where the car was? When you say indoors, is it your home garage?

Tesla model 3 awd lr only getting 286 miles of range at 100% charge

Your example is very extreme. If you get 100 miles at 100% you probably have more serious issues then degradation. I meant on a healthy pack it doesn't mean anything since that estimation will change with temperature, Tesla updates, and cell inbalance due to your charging habits. And depending...
