Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

Thank you falconFour for the bundle of wires. Install was easy compared to some other mods I have done. The car recognizes the new ECU after I reflashed with Service Mode Install. That method works good if you don’t want to wait for the next software update. I just drove up to my nearest body...

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

I created a ticket in the app to get the chargeport ECU from my local service center. They emailed me back saying they had the part and I rushed to the service center the next day to snap it up. The tesla guy at the desk was kind of clueless about why I would want the part and didn’t ask...

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

I can confirm that v 164-1 of the Setec firmware is working for me after the Holiday Update.

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

What software did you use to create that graph?
  5. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

FWIW the v164 updates are posted on Setecs website now. The posted Mac Version I was able to get working.

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

As an addendum I'm running your V164-1 firmware you posted on your website.

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

See the screenshot below. You have to chmod it to 755 to get the proper permissions. Then, type ./Mac_updata_tool to get it to run in the terminal. It seemed to recognize the adapter but was unable to do any update. It just got stuck on that try start message you see in the terminal screenshot.

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

On the right click context menu it does allow setting, permissions. The file in the zip file had no extension associates with it. I’ve tried all I know to do. Those instructions were lacking in details.

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

The folder that you place on desktop has a file that they ask you to open. I was unable to run that file. It appears to be a terminal program that runs in the shell. I'm running Mac OS X Monterey 12.0.1

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

I tried the Mac firmware updater and had no success. I was able to install the driver, but was unable to run the updater program in terminal.

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

I’m hoping Tesla releases the official one here soon. The Setec Ccs adapter actually came in handy when I was in Pensacola last weekend. The only chademo plug at the EA station was down. Setec adapter saved the day. No supercharger exists in that town.

New Tesla APP 4.x. Released for iOS and Android

I finally got it working . Had to erase entire iPhone and reinstall it. Then everything worked.

New Tesla APP 4.x. Released for iOS and Android

Has anyone been having trouble with the new Tesla IOS app not wanting to refresh to the car. I get the spinning wheel above battery percentage every time I’ve opens the app. Any idea on a fix. See screen below.

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

    I just hope I didn’t buy a 660 dollars U.S. paperweight.

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

So does that mean we will be able to drive through Canada to Alaska in an EV in the future?
  16. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Another thought about the SETEC adapter. Since it is basically a CCS-chademo protocol converter, they could probably adapt the same code/tech to let Nissan Leaf Users charge on CCS. That would be a big market.
  17. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

This SETEC adapter is a lot like masterbation. With one, your hand is trying to trick your body into thinking it’s having sex. With the adapter, it’s trying to trick the car into thinking it’s the Chademo so it will charge. The car finally got smart and realized it’s not the real thing.
  18. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Yep I got them to fix it not telling the complete Truth….
  19. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Yes it did damage my car.
  20. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

We just need that supercharger spoof firmware to get working now.
  21. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

If you plan on using any BTC power units, I would go with v150, otherwise v141 is pretty bulletproof for other charger equipment manufacturers.
  22. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

I agree , there is a need for dc fast chargers in rural areas or major towns not served by an interstate. Green new Deal baby!
  23. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

So has anyone noticed that only older Model S and X’s get the 80kw speed ? I tested the adapter on a friends 2018 model s and it only got 50KW. Tesla needs to push a software update to allow the 200 amp limit or someone come up with a software exploit.
  24. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Yep , I have been very disappointed with Greenlots in my charging experiences, they need to get their act together.
  25. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Yes. I’m testing v155 right now for compatibility.
  26. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

V 150 is the latest version they have. I sent them some data capture logs last night on some chargers I use regularly. Hopefully it will work before my road trip I’m taking in two weeks. This device is literally a “Tesla Killer” if you use the experimental firmware.
  27. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

So was the Signet rep flipping out about the adapter or only curios? I’ve seen Tesla owners post to Twitter using the SETEC adapter on an EA station and tagging EA on the post; they received a like and retweet from EA so I guess they don’t care.???
  28. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

See attached. V140 is the same as v141. Stay charged !
  29. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

It’s on the website , you just have to click the greyed out link. If that doesn’t work I can post it here .
  30. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

So I downgrade to v140 and the adapter works with that Efacec brand QC45 charger. It seems like a mix of firmware is needed to get it to work with certain brands.
  31. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Yeah it's been a crapshoot with Efacec. v141 worked for me on those. Guess I will have to downgrade. Below is the nameplate of the one I tried charging at.
  32. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

So I summed up enough courage to try try again. Not going with the Frankenstein firmware this time. Efacec Greenlots stations did not work for me on v150, but it did not hurt the car. Has v150 been pretty much bulletproof for everyone?
  33. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Yea you are correct. I just got greedy. I would probably use it again at the 50KW speed if I was in a pinch.
  34. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

So I finally got my car back from the service center after waiting on parts for about a month. Looks like the adapter caused some pretty good damage, but the repairs were free since I’m still under warranty. I did not tell them about the adapter. following items were replaced : Charger port MCU...
  35. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Still waiting on parts. They did have to order a charge port MCU.
  36. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

I'm attaching my test log capture and the firmware I used if you want to try it yourself. Don't blame be if it causes you problems. Caveat Emptor.
  37. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

2019 Model 3 LR Dual Motor
  38. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Yes, it was a v149 Supercharger firmware to get more than 125 amps.
  39. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

So I played Russian Roulette with this adapter, and finally got the bullet in the chamber this time. I fried my charge port I believe. My car will not charge on either AC or DC. As a clarification , I was using an experimental firmware that "spoofed" the Super charger protocol. Getting the car...
  40. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

I would just ask SETEC for the v140. They are making tweaks all the time. Yes 50KW is ok, but if I can get the full 80kw without damaging the battery, I’m all for it.
  41. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

So I’m on v 140 firmware as of today. got the following chargers to work on v140 Signet v1 Electrify America Efacec qc45 charger ABB electrify America Harley Davidson ChargePoint Adapter. Still peaked at 50KW on 2019 LR M3 AWD. I’m locking on this version until they can get the speeds up...
  42. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

So I’m up to V 134 now. The update made some things working and broke things that were working. Still limited to 50KW with M3. I’ve done a lot of testing and haven’t fried my car yet.
  43. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Your analogy is quite correct , that adapter looks like a hand gun if you hold it the right way. It’s a new EVSE Roulette.
  44. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

You gotta love doing beta testing on 3rd party adapters, while potentially voiding the warranty. :)
  45. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

What would be really cool is if they could reverse engineer and spoof the super charger protocol and let you get the full 200 amps the adapter allows. Maybe in the future ....
  46. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Has anyone been able to charge above 50KW on a model 3? I don’t think they are releasing the current forcing firmware yet.
  47. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

I just tested V130 on a Signet V1 Electrify America station and a Efacec QC45 station. No problems and I did not have to have USB connection to laptop.
  48. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

This is definitely a crowd sourced beta test program. I’m hoping to get another firmware update to test tomorrow. I’m still on v129.
  49. Reddy_KW

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

The charge test at an EA station with ABB chargers was a success. Still limited to 50kW on my Model 3. So that makes the following vendor equipment I have gotten it to work with: Signet, Efacec, ABB, and BTC Power. The BTC Power and Signet Chargers only worked when I was capturing data for...
