    You miss the milling sound? I'll trade DU with you. :-D TBH, I have not checked the catalog. I'll have a look. I assume they wont sell things like bearings from the DU, only the whole unit. I assumed I would have to contact SKF myself and spec the bearings. Shouldn't be too hard.

    I'm picking up a rough 2013 85 with milling noise. Does anyone have info on a real fix? Replace the rotor/gear bearings? Add a carbon brush? The car is rebuilt so no warranty AFAIK. I've disassembled multiple drive units, no issues there. I just hope to confirm what the fix is.

    I assure you the model 3 does do "torque sleep" for the front motor. It's just a matter of turning off switching; really basic feature. The lesser range of the AWD three comes down the the 250 lbs of extra mass and the frictional losses of having that rotor and gears spinning at 10,000 rpm...

I think you should sit down and carefully draw a voltage across any of the phase legs and you will see that once you exceed 650v you will just get a dead...

If the back emf exceeds 650v, the mosfet will conduct in the forward direction (with a 650v drop) The pack can't help either, since it's a fact that the mosfet will conduct at 650V when it is off. The pack being connected or not wont really make any difference...

    Just the inverter, yes. The motor won't be damaged. You are completely right, if you were traveling at 90mph, and you cut 12v power to the inverter , it would quickly go poof. Exceedingly rare circumstance in practice. This is why field weaking is so uncommon for hobbiest / diy ev projects...

    The motor is an IPM style just like Nissan leaf and what the Prius has had for almost two decades. There is nothing really special about the design. Tesla marketing. :-) Even Milwaukee power tools use IPM motors these days.
