Plaid X Vibration at beginning of each drive: Who is experiencing this?

The half shafts in my 2020 Model X got noisy at around 14000 miles December purchase 2019. They were replaced under warranty. The service center also cleaned and lubricated the calipers on the Car at no charge July 2021 and gave me a loaner. So no complaints on the service. The car has 30570...

Consumer Reports BIAS against Tesla. BOGUS RANGE ANSWER LIMITS FOR TESLA ON QUESTIONNAIRE

The FIRST part of the survey was the make, model and year of my vehicles. 2020 Model X long range & 2021 Model S Plaid So I think it is fair to assume that they knew it was Tesla cars

Consumer Reports BIAS against Tesla. BOGUS RANGE ANSWER LIMITS FOR TESLA ON QUESTIONNAIRE

I just checked my Email and I have 3 likes and no dislikes. I will put ucmndd in the dislike column. The the ratio is much like the ratio of people who miss trust the media vs those who really trust the media. Like I said I have lots of company.

Consumer Reports BIAS against Tesla. BOGUS RANGE ANSWER LIMITS FOR TESLA ON QUESTIONNAIRE

Yesterday when driving across Rockland county N Y , very hilly terrain, lots of curves and some stop signs and traffic lights I actually used less range than the actual miles covered on the round trip. I was not using the climate control but had my windows open it was a nice day. Sure if I drive...

Consumer Reports BIAS against Tesla. BOGUS RANGE ANSWER LIMITS FOR TESLA ON QUESTIONNAIRE

Friday I went on the Consumer Reports web sit to fill out a survey on my cars. When I got to the question of range on a full charge the MAXIMUM range I could enter was 100 miles OR I could answer "unsure" See below what I copied and pasted below from the survey. Well I am NOT UNSURE and I...

    Clunking sound from front drivetrain

I have a 2021 Plaid which I got July 1, 2021. Yes I got one of the first ones. It has almost 20,000 miles. I get an fairly loud clunk from the left front. It only happens from a stop. Only in the forward direction. I can also feel something "break loose". The trouble is it only happens...

    Yoke peeling

I have the same problem the first one started failing after 7 months and 6k miles replaced a month later under warranty. The failure was at the lower left corner of the yoke in the same place as rborovoy yoke above. The second one on schedule started failing after 7 months of service in the...

All season tires install on my Plaid yesterday and A MAJOR RANGE INCREASE ???

Let me be clear. I did not say that the car can adjust the speedometer calibration from the camera system. The camera system in the Tesla is doing computer aided photogrammmetry to map the cars surroundings to be able to self drive. The car before it can "self drive" first has to do camera...

All season tires install on my Plaid yesterday and A MAJOR RANGE INCREASE ???

Well at least according to Tire Rack When the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below...

All season tires install on my Plaid yesterday and A MAJOR RANGE INCREASE ???

When I placed the order with T Sportline and spoke to them they were very specific same size all around and the size I listed 285/35R20. BTW I am getting the promised replacement wheel tomorrow and it will be installed Wednesday. I will explore the range issue with the service center. I will...

All season tires install on my Plaid yesterday and A MAJOR RANGE INCREASE ???

I agree it's an estimate. I have not run my Plaid From 100 % to Zero to see what the range is so I can't comment on the figures you give but they are reasonable depending on how much fun you are having with the Plaid. I think in a prior post I noted the tire diameter differences and the new...

All season tires install on my Plaid yesterday and A MAJOR RANGE INCREASE ???

The tires seem to be getting less noisy but have not put very many miles on them yet. The ride, handling, grip in all directions for street driving is about the same as the summer tires. I think the wheel tire package has a pretty good look. On the range issue before the new tires the miles...

All season tires install on my Plaid yesterday and A MAJOR RANGE INCREASE ???

The range at 70 % charge this am was 277 miles vs 274 so even more range. I concur the watts per mile determines range. Depending on the trip 260 for a low 330-340 watts per mile for a high. I will see what it does today and post some feed back.

All season tires install on my Plaid yesterday and A MAJOR RANGE INCREASE ???

Yesterday took the Plaid in for a wheel and tire change out @ the Mount Kisco Tesla Facility. They had to dismount the tires install the "purple" Tire Pressure sensors that are different and are blue tooth. They installed ST 20" Tesla Model S Long Range & Plaid Wheel and Tire Package (Set of 4)...

Wiki MASTER THREAD: Actual FSD Beta downloads and experiences

I am in the same boat. Our safety score disappeared first on the Plaid then on the 2020 model X L R. We occasionally we hit the magical 100 % but only when we were lucky and did not have to stop for yellow lights. My wife drives the X she had a score or 97. I drive the Plaid and had a score of...

I when on the score simulator and incrementally up the aggressive braking number to 0.3 and it dropped the score to 99. I had a .4 aggressive braking and scored a 99. No matter they have stopped scoring me. Have they stopped monitoring my driving ? Don't know.

Blog Tesla’s FSD Beta 10.2 Coming This Friday

What we are told is that we have to be ready to take over and recover from what ever driving error the FSD makes. We are also fully responsible for whatever happens as well. BUT the criteria for releasing this to us is to avoid hard braking and cornering among other criteria. The allowable...

2021+ Model S tires and wheels: all things (Plaid, LR, OEM, aftermkt, 19, 20, 21, summer, winter etc.)

I enjoyed your attached video clip. IF you back calculate the effective H P of the Plaid based on ET and weight you will come up with mid 1200 hp and on mph mid 1300 hp. The clip substantiates the effective HP of the plaid

2021+ Model S tires and wheels: all things (Plaid, LR, OEM, aftermkt, 19, 20, 21, summer, winter etc.)

The issue could be with their 19 inch wheels and not Tesla wheels. I went out and looked at the radial clearance on my Plaid between teh brake caliper and the wheel. It was eyeballing it 1 1/4 inches. So as long as 1/4 inch of radial clearance is ok the 19 inch rims would fit. I am like the pig...

2021+ Model S tires and wheels: all things (Plaid, LR, OEM, aftermkt, 19, 20, 21, summer, winter etc.)

    You may want to check the diameters of the 285/35R20 and the 305/30R20 tires. The nominal diameter of the 285/35R20 can be estimated as. 285X0.35X2/25.4 + 20 =27.85 and 305/30R20 305X0.30X2/25.4 + 20 = 27.20 . For reference the stock front tire is 265X 0.35X 2 /25.4 + 21 = 28.30 and the rear...

2021+ Model S tires and wheels: all things (Plaid, LR, OEM, aftermkt, 19, 20, 21, summer, winter etc.)

In speaking to the people at T Sportline the 19 inch rims have a clearance problem with the larger brakes on the Plaid. Lighter wheels and tires will enhance multiple aspects of the handling, ride and performance of the car. But it's NOT a cheap date. Nice looking wheels !!

2021+ Model S tires and wheels: all things (Plaid, LR, OEM, aftermkt, 19, 20, 21, summer, winter etc.)

To all I found a set of 20 inch 10 inch wide flow forged wheels at T Sportline. They are going to be fitted with 285/35R20 Michelin all season tires. The lowest cost way to go (which I flubbed) is to order the wheels and lug nut caps (yup you need them) from T Sportline and the tires from tire...

Winter tires for the Model S Plaid ?

I am looking for a set of wheels and tires for winter use for my model S Plaid. I am loathe to go with narrower width tires. I am planning on going with all season tires as the winters here are not that bad and all season tires have been more than adequate with my all wheel drive vehicles.

BlendMount Radar detector mount for Tesla Model S

My staff machined up a simple piece of 3/16 lexan and threaded it for the suction cup mount and used 4 small pieces of Velcro on the bottom of the valentine to mount it to the lexan plate. It works perfectly and the suction cup holds nicely on the back of the display.

Speed and load ratings for the 21" tires on the Model S Plaid

I was curious about the speed and load ratings on the standard Pilot Sport 4S tires fitted to my Plaid. They are Z rated 186 + mph & have a load rating of 1800+ pounds front and rear @ 50 psig . The GVWR on my manufacturers label is 5657 and the GAWR front is 2645 and GAWR rear is 3196. So at...

Dead 12 V battery in my Model S Plaid

My sentry was and is off when plugged into the wall charger. I did note this morning when I went into the car to take a photo of my signal light fix/tactile reminder the wall charge system woke up and provided a minimal level of current. I suspect this is to prevent main battery draw.

Turn signal control switches adding tactile feed back

Since I last posted I was able to get some thin black rubber sheeting that was adhesive backed. Here are the photos. The black rubber is not a good match for the black color of the yoke but it's less obvious. The tactile feed back is sufficient. I have to say the signalling errors have simply...

Turn signal control switches adding tactile feed back

The muscle memory is kicking in and I am much more comfortable with the turn signals. Of all the control system changes the turn signal system was the most annoying. This was my first try to see if it helped. It does. I can always find the signal button quickly without looking . The materail was something I could get overnight from amazon. Now that it does do the trick. I will see about a better solution that is a little more subtle. Perhaps you could...

BlendMount Radar detector mount for Tesla Model S

Turn signal control switches adding tactile feed back

There is very little tactile feel to the turn signals other than a low raised rib between the left and right turn buttons. I added a very small adhesive backed triangle adjacent to the turn signals . The flat of the triangle is adhacent and inboard of the left signal. The point of the triangle...

Dead 12 V battery in my Model S Plaid

I was listening carefully but was not taking notes. So it's possible I missed something. I was also speaking to a local tech and not the engineering people as well so the info is second hand. They did say it was bizarre explanation and unique to the Plaid. They had 4 days to come up with the...

    A yoke or a joke?

I have had my Plaid for about a week and 500 miles. The first 100 were awkward for tight turns. After that it became more natural. The reality is most steer inputs are pretty small. Large steer inputs are done mainly at low speed. What I find myself doing in a tight turn is to grab one of the...

BlendMount Radar detector mount for Tesla Model S

What I am doing is using a typical articulating suction cup mount for my Valentine 1 but mounting it to the back of the main user interface and powering it off the power point. Dead 12 V battery in my Model S Plaid

DRUM ROLL PLEASE The 12 V problem has been resolved. Apparently there was a software problem in the Tesla Wall Charger that prevented the 12 V battery from being supported. My Model S was apparently the first car effected by the problem. A software update was sent to all the Plaids as they...

Dead 12 V battery in my Model S Plaid

Thanks for you comments. It could be anywhere in the 12 V system, From a simple bad connection or ground, a software issue, a problem with the charger for the 12 V system to a bad "12 V" lithium battery. What I can tell you is the instant a jumper battery was connected everything worked...

    Supercharger capacity reality??

I usually charge my 2020 Model X long range at home for convenience . I have used the same local supercharger twice. So this is a VERY limited data base. The first time I was at perhaps 200-210 miles of range and the charge rate was slow I think maybe 20 KW and 80 mph. Max range setting...
